2026 Geely EX5 Extended Range pricing revealed

Geely EX5

Key Points

  • 2026 Geely EX5 gains a larger 68.4kWh battery and up to 475km WLTP range.
  • Prices rise by $1000, starting from $41,990 before on-roads.
  • Power remains 160kW/320Nm, but extra weight slightly slows acceleration.
  • The EX5 outsold several key EV rivals in Australia in 2025.
  • The update strengthens Geely’s position in the competitive sub-$50k EV SUV market.

Australian pricing and specifications for the 2026 Geely EX5 Extended Range have surfaced online ahead of an official announcement, revealing a larger battery, more driving range and a modest price rise.

Industry guide Redbook has published details of the updated mid-size electric SUV, which continues in two familiar trims – Complete and Inspire – but now gains a new 68.4kWh battery pack.

The update comes just a year after the EX5 launched locally, where it quickly established itself as a strong seller in the increasingly competitive mid-size EV segment.

What’s changed for 2026?

The headline upgrade is the switch to a larger 68.4kWh battery, replacing the outgoing 60.22kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) unit.

That translates to a meaningful bump in range:

  • Complete: 475km WLTP (up from 430km)
  • Inspire: 450km WLTP (up from 410km)

Power remains unchanged, with the front-mounted electric motor continuing to produce 160kW and 320Nm.

However, the added battery capacity brings around 50kg of extra weight, which slightly impacts performance. According to Redbook data, the 0–100km/h sprint time increases to 7.6 seconds for the Complete and 7.4 seconds for the Inspire – both marginally slower than the outgoing versions.

A new premium paint option, Jungle Green – first seen on the Geely Starray – also joins the colour palette.

Aside from the addition of a cargo cover across the range, equipment levels appear largely unchanged.

How much will it cost?

Pricing has risen by $1000 across the range:

  • EX5 Complete: $41,990 before on-road costs
  • EX5 Inspire: $45,990 before on-road costs

Even with the increase, the EX5 remains positioned aggressively within Australia’s mid-size EV segment, undercutting several rivals while now offering close to 500km of WLTP range in base trim.

Where does the EX5 sit in Australia’s EV market?

The EX5 marked the return of the Geely brand to Australia in 2025 after a decade-long absence, and it quickly proved competitive.

Despite not being on sale for the full calendar year, it recorded 3944 deliveries in 2025, outselling established rivals such as the BYD Atto 3, as well as newer entrants like the Deepal S07 and Leapmotor C10.

That early success suggests Geely’s renewed Australian strategy – backed by the broader Geely Auto Group portfolio, which includes brands like Polestar 2 and Zeekr 009 under its corporate umbrella – is gaining traction.

The extended-range update appears designed to future-proof the EX5 as competitors steadily increase battery sizes and advertised range figures.

What does this mean for Australian EV buyers?

For Australian consumers, the bigger battery addresses one of the most influential buying factors: range anxiety.

A WLTP rating of up to 475km places the EX5 more comfortably against mainstream combustion SUVs and narrows the perceived usability gap for regional and highway driving.

From an industry perspective, the update reinforces how quickly Chinese EV manufacturers are iterating products. Battery upgrades within a year of launch highlight the pace of development – and the pressure on rivals to respond.

If Geely can maintain strong supply and competitive finance offers, the EX5 could continue to chip away at incumbents in the sub-$50,000 electric SUV bracket.

In a market where range figures increasingly drive showroom decisions, 45km of extra WLTP range for $1000 may prove a compelling value proposition.
