Chinese electric car maker XPeng has revealed the G9L, its new flagship large SUV, at the Paris Motor Show on 13 October. The G9L seats six or seven across three rows and will be offered as a fully electric vehicle and as a range-extender electric vehicle (REEV).
XPeng confirmed the G9L is coming to Australia. It will be the brand's fourth local model after the G6, X9 and L03, and its first large SUV. Pricing, specifications and launch timing for Australia and New Zealand will be confirmed in the coming months.

XPeng's fourth model in Australia
The G9L will join the G6 mid-size SUV, the X9 people mover and the L03 SUV coupe in XPeng showrooms. The L03 went on sale in September from $41,900, while the X9 is priced from $89,900.
The G9L will sit at the top of the SUV range as the brand's first large SUV in Australia. XPeng had previously pointed to a fourth-quarter 2026 local launch, with customer deliveries expected in early 2027.

One of the few full-size three-row electric SUVs
In fully electric form, the G9L will be one of only a handful of properly sized three-row electric SUVs in Australia. It joins the Kia EV9, Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Volvo EX90.
At 5120mm long, the G9L is longer than all three. Its 3100mm wheelbase matches the EV9 and is 30mm shorter than the IONIQ 9's.
Dimension | XPeng G9L | Kia EV9 | Hyundai IONIQ 9 | Volvo EX90 |

EV and range-extender powertrains
Both versions of the G9L use an 800V electrical architecture. XPeng quotes the same peak outputs for each: 430kW of power and 695Nm of torque.
The EV uses a 110kWh battery. The REEV pairs a 63kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that acts as a generator.
Specification | G9L EV | G9L REEV |
Battery | 110kWh | 63kWh LFP |
Range extender | None | 1.5-litre turbo petrol |
WLTP range | Up to 553km (591km also quoted) | 287km electric, up to 1200km combined |
Max power | 430kW | 430kW |
Max torque | 695Nm | 695Nm |
0-100km/h | Not stated | 5.4 seconds |
Peak DC charging | 540kW | Not stated |
DC charging, 10-80% | Under 12 minutes | About 12 minutes |
Kunpeng Range Extender
XPeng calls the system Kunpeng Super Electric REEV. The petrol engine only generates electricity and never drives the wheels, so the G9L is always driven by its electric motors.
The REEV uses a larger battery than conventional plug-in hybrids and range-extenders. The aim is for daily driving to be electric, with the engine used on longer trips.
In Australia, range-extender models are treated as plug-in hybrids. That means the REEV would not qualify for the fringe benefits tax exemption on novated leases. Only the EV version could qualify, depending on its final price.

Fast Charging: 10 to 80 per cent charge in 12 minutes
The G9L features 5C charging which allows a 10 to 80 per cent charge in about 12 minutes. The EV has a peak DC charging speed of 540kW and can do the same top-up in under 12 minutes on a suitable charger.
That would place the G9L among the fastest-charging EVs on sale alongside the Xpeng X9. Most ultra-rapid public chargers in Australia are however rated well below 540kW, so local charging times are likely to be longer in practice. For most owners, overnight charging will be done with home EV charger installation.
Chassis and safety
The G9L uses double-wishbone front suspension and H-arm multi-link rear suspension. It adds dual-chamber air suspension, Continuous Damping Control (CDC) adaptive dampers and rear-wheel steering. XPeng said rear-wheel steering helps make the large SUV easier to manage in tight urban spaces.
Nine airbags are standard. Autonomous emergency braking works at speeds of up to 150km/h, and the stability system provides support after a tyre blowout. XPeng said the G9L went through three years of testing across 26 countries and regions, covering more than 6.74 million kilometres.

Six or seven seats across three rows
The G9L measures 5120mm long, 1998mm wide and 1788mm tall. It will be offered with six-seat and seven-seat layouts, though XPeng has not confirmed which will come to Australia.
Row | Key features |
First row | Nappa leather, AI adaptive seats with adaptive side bolsters, two-way pneumatic thigh support, heating, ventilation, memory, 16-point massage and a zero-gravity passenger seat |
Second row | Nappa leather, power adjustment, heating, ventilation, memory, 10-point massage, 40:20:40 split folding and electric rear sunshades |
Third row | Power adjustment, heating and 50:50 split folding |
Other features include a 26-speaker sound system, a built-in fridge and passenger entertainment screens.

XPeng NGP driver assistance due in 2027
The G9L uses XPeng's Next Generation Pilot (NGP) driver assistance system. It runs on the company's second-generation VLA AI model.
NGP is designed for city as well as highway driving. Features include navigation-based assisted driving, automatic lane changes and route decisions, and recognition of traffic lights and road signs. It also assists through intersections, roundabouts and narrow roads, and adds parking functions including APA, Reverse Assistant and Customised Parking.
XPeng intends to roll out NGP to customers in Australia and New Zealand during 2027. It has not said whether the feature will be available when the G9L launches.

What is still unconfirmed for Australia
XPeng has not confirmed Australian pricing, specifications or a launch date for the G9L. It has also not said which powertrains or seating layouts will be offered locally.
