The X9 is XPeng's first three-row model for Australia and its first local model fitted with the company's in-house Turing AI chip. It lines up against the Zeekr 009 and Denza D9 in the growing electric people mover segment, and also faces petrol and hybrid rivals such as the Kia Carnival.

The X9 launches in Australia in two variants. The FWD Standard Range starts at $89,900 plus on-road costs, and the AWD Performance is priced from $109,900 plus on-road costs. Both prices exclude on-road costs. Drive-away pricing is available through XPeng dealers.

FBT and Novated Lease Eligibility
The X9 FWD Standard Range, at $89,900 plus on-road costs, sits below the luxury car tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles of $92,494. This keeps it within range for Fringe Benefits Tax concessions available to eligible electric vehicles under a novated lease.
Under the current rules, EVs priced below $75,000 qualify for a full FBT exemption. EVs priced between $75,000 and $92,494 receive a 25 per cent FBT discount rather than a full exemption. At $89,900, the X9 FWD Standard Range falls into the discounted tier, not the full exemption tier. This detail should be checked against current ATO guidance before publishing, since the source brief for this article described the car as eligible for the full exemption, which does not match the $75,000 full-exemption cutoff also supplied.
The AWD Performance, at $109,900, exceeds the $92,494 threshold and is not eligible for either FBT concession.
The X9 FWD Standard Range's $89,900 list price sits close to the top-spec Kia Carnival GT-Line, Australia's best-selling people mover, priced from $78,348 plus on-road costs. On list price alone the Carnival is cheaper, by a little over $11,500. That gap narrows, and can flip, once a novated lease is factored in due to potential tax savings from the FBT exemption. Platform, Range and Charging
The X9 is built on XPeng's 800V silicon carbide platform with 5C ultra-fast charging capability. Peak DC charging on the AWD Performance is up to 542kW, allowing a 10 to 80 per cent charge in as little as 12 minutes under test conditions. AC charging across the range is 11kW, and both variants offer vehicle-to-load capability of up to 6kW.

Every X9 has Active Rear-Wheel Steering and intelligent dual-chamber air suspension as standard, working with XPeng's AI chassis system. XPeng says this is aimed at improving low-speed manoeuvrability and highway stability. The X9's turning radius is 5.4m. Its drag coefficient is 0.236.
Interior and Seating
The X9 has a flat-floor cabin with 60/40 split-folding second and third rows. XPeng says the layout can shift from a four-seat lounge configuration to five, six or seven-seat arrangements. With all seven seats in use, boot space is 721 litres, described by XPeng as enough for seven 20-inch carry-on suitcases. Folding the rear rows opens up to 2554 litres of cargo space.
Second-row Zero Gravity seats offer 14-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage functions. The third row is heated. Technology includes a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, 21-inch head-up display, 21.4-inch rear entertainment display, a 27-speaker XOPERA audio system and a voice-controlled fridge that runs from 0 to 50°C. The infotainment system runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and supports over-the-air updates.

Driver Assistance and Safety
XPILOT Assist is powered by the Turing AI chip, rated at 750 TOPS, and combines cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors. Standard features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centring Control, Automatic Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Detection. Parking assistance includes Enhanced Auto Parking Assist, Remote Parking Assist, Auto Exit Parking Assist and a 360-degree surround-view camera with a transparent chassis view.
XPeng says the X9 is engineered to meet 5-star safety standards, though it has not yet been assessed by ANCAP. The body uses an integrated front and rear casting structure rated at 46,000 Nm/deg of torsional rigidity, with nine airbags and a 70.9-litre side curtain airbag. XPeng also cites 16 intelligent active safety features and a 6D Battery Safety system for the traction battery.
Warranty and Availability
XPeng backs the X9 with a 7-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty for private owners, or 7 years/160,000km for commercial use. The traction battery, Battery Management System, drive motor and Intelligent Power Unit are covered for 8 years or 160,000km. Paint is covered for 5 years, and anti-corrosion protection for 7 years, both unlimited kilometres. Scheduled servicing is due every 12 months or 20,000km, whichever comes first.
The X9 is available to order now in six exterior colours and three interior colours through authorised XPeng dealers, with deliveries commencing shortly. Data connectivity includes unlimited ongoing access for maps and core vehicle software, plus 12 months of unlimited data for entertainment services.
