Key Points
- XPENG has formally launched XPENG Motors Australia Pty Ltd, a wholly owned factory-backed subsidiary, to sell and service its vehicles directly in Australia.
- TrueEV, XPENG's original distributor, appears set to continue operating alongside the new factory network, despite an ongoing Federal Court dispute between the two parties.
- The XPENG X9 is expected to launch in Australia in May 2026, and dealer recruitment is already underway across NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, and WA.
XPENG has formally launched a factory-backed operation in Australia. The new entity, XPENG Motors Australia Pty Ltd (XPENG ANZ), is a wholly owned subsidiary of XPeng Inc. It will build its own dealer network, run its own customer support, and manage factory-backed logistics across the country.
The announcement was made on 1 April 2026. XPENG says dealer recruitment is already underway in major cities across Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, and Western Australia.
What This Means for Buyers
For now, XPENG vehicles can still be purchased through TrueEV showrooms. It appears the factory-backed network will run as a separate operation. This means buyers may soon have two options: an official XPENG dealer, or a TrueEV showroom.
Key details such as when factory-backed sales will begin, whether some models will be exclusive to official channels, and whether pricing will differ between the two networks have not yet been confirmed.
The TrueEV Situation
TrueEV launched XPENG in Australia in late 2024, starting with the G6 mid-size SUV. It claims to have delivered around 2,000 vehicles. The company opened showrooms at Sydney Airport and Crown Sydney, and partnered with dealer groups including Autopact in Queensland.
In early 2026, TrueEV filed legal action against XPENG in the Federal Court of Australia. The reason for the dispute has not been made public. Weeks later, TrueEV appointed an external receiver to manage the sale of 197 older-model vehicles across multiple sites. The company denied it had entered full administration.
Owners of current XPENG vehicles have raised concerns on social media about parts supply and cashback incentives that have not yet been honoured.

X9 Coming in May
According to Sam Evans, known online as The Electric Viking, the XPENG X9 will officially launch in Australia in May 2026. The X9 is a large premium MPV powered by three Turing AI chips. Evans, who has a marketing affiliation with XPENG but does not work for the company or TrueEV, described it as his personal favourite EV on the market.
Evans also confirmed that both TrueEV and XPENG ANZ will co-distribute the brand. He noted that XPENG has already signed a number of new dealerships and expects the dealer network to effectively double.
On the legal front, Evans said the next court hearing is scheduled for October 2026, but indicated it will not be about distribution rights.
