XPeng has built the first right-hand-drive examples of its G9L SUV, with the vehicles rolling off the production line at the company's Guangzhou factory on September 11. The milestone marks the start of the G9L's move into right-hand-drive markets, and XPeng has confirmed shipments to Australia are beginning.
The G9L is one of several new XPeng models confirmed for Australia this year. It is due to arrive locally in the fourth quarter, following the launch of the smaller XPeng L03, with customer deliveries expected to start in early 2027.
Right-hand-drive production begins in Guangzhou
XPeng announced the milestone on Weibo, saying the G9L is set to enter 64 countries and regions worldwide. The right-hand-drive configuration signals the SUV is being prepared for markets including Australia, the UK and parts of Southeast Asia, with shipments to Australia due to begin shortly.

XPeng says development of the G9L took three years, including more than 6.74 million kilometres of road testing across 26 countries and regions. The G9L globally debuted in China on August 11, when local pre-sales opened from 259,800 yuan (about US$38,350). Australian pricing has not been confirmed.
G9L specifications: BEV and EREV
The G9L is offered in China as both a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), built on XPeng's 800-volt fast-charging platform. In China it is sold as a five-seat SUV, but XPeng has confirmed export markets, including Australia, will receive six and seven-seat versions instead.

Due in Australia in the fourth quarter, after the L03
XPeng has previously confirmed the G9L is due to launch in Australia by the end of this year, with customer deliveries expected to begin in early 2027. It follows the local launch of the smaller L03, XPeng's first EV to bring in right-hand-drive form ahead of its own Australian debut.
In Australia, the G9L is expected to be offered with six or seven-seat layouts rather than the five-seat version sold in China. At 5,120mm long, it will sit among the larger SUVs on the market, positioning it against seven-seat rivals such as the Hyundai Palisade, Toyota Kluger and Kia EV9.

Exports climb as XPeng targets 60,000 monthly sales
The right-hand-drive G9L milestone comes as XPeng's overseas sales continue to grow. The company exported 8,125 vehicles in August, up 169.22 per cent year-on-year. Across the first eight months of 2026, XPeng exported 49,424 vehicles, already surpassing its entire 2025 export total of 45,014 units and accounting for 20.33 per cent of total deliveries in that period.
XPeng management has said the company is aiming to exceed 60,000 monthly sales in the fourth quarter, with new model launches, including the G9L, expected to support that target.
