XPeng officially confirmed at its Brand Day that its flagship GX SUV is headed to Australia, bringing one of the brand's largest and most luxurious models to local showrooms.
Designed to sit at the top of XPeng's lineup, the full-size SUV is expected to compete with premium rivals such as the upcoming Zeekr 9X and established German luxury SUVs. Although an official launch date is yet to be announced, the model is unlikely to arrive for at least another six to nine months.
Available overseas as both a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and a range extender electric vehicle (REEV), the GX promises long driving range, ultra-fast charging and premium family-focused practicality.
Large luxury SUV with electric and hybrid options
The GX is currently the largest SUV offered by XPeng and is positioned as the brand's flagship model.
Unlike many premium EVs, buyers overseas can choose between fully electric versions or a range extender hybrid, where a petrol engine acts solely as a generator to recharge the battery rather than drive the wheels.
Battery electric models are available with either a 270kW rear-wheel-drive setup or a 430kW dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. XPeng claims these variants can travel between 665km and 750km on China's CLTC testing cycle.
The range extender version swaps the larger battery packs for a 63.6kWh battery, delivering a claimed 430km of electric-only driving before the 110kW 1.5-litre petrol engine extends total driving range to 1,585km.
Charging performance is equally impressive, with XPeng claiming its battery electric models can recharge from 0 to 80 per cent in just 11.7 minutes using DC fast charging.

Australian launch plans begin to take shape
XPeng has confirmed the GX is destined for Australia, although the company is yet to announce exactly when it will arrive.
Speaking to Australian media, XPeng's Head of International Development Alex Tang confirmed the flagship SUV is part of the company's long-term global expansion strategy.
Demand in China has reportedly exceeded expectations, with production currently focused on meeting domestic orders before export markets begin receiving vehicles.
One hurdle for Australia is the vehicle's name. The GX badge cannot be used locally because Lexus already owns the trademark. XPeng has not yet revealed what the Australian version will be called.
Before the flagship arrives, Australian buyers will receive another large SUV.
XPeng has confirmed a seven-seat G9L is due to launch locally by the end of this year, with customer deliveries expected to begin in early next year. Measuring 5,120mm long, the G9L will be one of Australia's largest SUVs, rivalling models such as the Hyundai Palisade Hybrid and BYD Sealion 8.

What this means for Australia
The GX signals XPeng's intention to move beyond mainstream electric SUVs and compete directly in Australia's premium luxury segment.
With an expected starting price in the high-$80,000 range and flagship variants likely approaching $100,000, the SUV will target buyers considering the Zeekr 9X and established European luxury brands.
Chinese pricing currently ranges from 279,800 yuan to 359,800 yuan, placing it just below the flagship XPeng X9 people mover. Since the X9 is priced from $89,900 before on-road costs in Australia, the GX is expected to follow a similar pricing strategy locally.
For Australian buyers, the arrival of both battery electric and range extender versions would also provide greater choice in the rapidly growing premium SUV market.
