XPeng set out its long-term strategy for Australia at a Brand Day event in Melbourne today. The company confirmed five new EV models within six months, an expanded dealer and service network, and a 2027 timeline for its next-generation self-driving system.
The event builds on XPeng's move to a factory-backed, direct-to-market operation in Australia, and comes as the brand works to widen its local sales and after-sales footprint.
Five New Models in Six Months
XPeng will introduce five new vehicles in Australia within six months, part of a deliberate shift to launch new models in sync with China rather than months or years behind. The updated MY26 G6 and seven-seat X9 people mover are available to order now.
The L03 compact SUV, shown in right-hand drive at the Melbourne event days after its global unveiling in Munich on 16 July 2026, is confirmed for Australian sale in the fourth quarter of 2026. XPeng confirmed two further models on display at the event but did not reveal them. Both will be larger versions of existing models in XPeng's range, according to XPeng ANZ.
XPeng also previewed its Range Rover rivalling GX SUV, confirming it will arrive in Australia in 2027, albeit under a different name to avoid a trademark conflict with Lexus.
XPeng head of marketing and creativity Damian Royce said the approach marks a break from XPeng's earlier release pattern in Australia, where new models typically arrived well behind their Chinese debut. XPeng ANZ says it now plans to keep Australia's rollout "in sync" with China across future models, so local customers get access to the brand's latest vehicles and technology, including Turing chip hardware and VLA 2.0 eligibility, without the usual lag.
Kunpeng Range Extender
XPeng is bringing a dual-energy strategy to Australia, offering both battery electric vehicles and range-extended electric vehicles under its Kunpeng Range Extender technology. XPeng describes the system as EV-first, prioritising electric driving for everyday use while adding range confidence for longer journeys, regional travel and situations where charging isn't available.
XPeng cites a large battery, extended total range and low NVH as features of the system, which it says is designed for Australian and New Zealand driving conditions. What differentiates XPeng’s range extender models will be the substantial electric range, expected to be over 250km WLTP for the models on display at the event.
VLA 2.0 and the Path to Self-Driving
XPeng's next-generation intelligent driving system, built on its VLA 2.0 foundation model, is scheduled for a global launch in 2027. Australia is named as one of the first right-hand-drive markets in line to receive it, though the rollout is subject to regulatory approval and XPeng has not given a firm Australian release date beyond "by the end of 2027."
The system runs on XPeng's in-house Turing AI chips, which the company says deliver up to 2250 TOPS of computing power across as many as three chips per vehicle, with configuration varying by model. XPeng says the same foundation model also underpins its Robotaxi program, and the company is inviting local fleet operators, mobility companies and dealers to partner on autonomous mobility development in Australia.
Damian Royce, Head of Marketing at XPeng ANZ, said the technology in the cars launching now is built on the same foundation as the rest of the company's product range. "One stack developed in-house," he said, adding that an XPeng buyer in Australia is getting an early version of that technology.
Charging and Energy Plans
XPeng confirmed it will bring ultra-fast charging stations to Australia as part of its local energy strategy, alongside a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) pilot program. XPeng did not provide details on its rollout timeline or V2G pilot start date.
Dealer Network and After-Sales Support
Within six months, XPeng ANZ plans to operate three flagship technology experience centres and a national network of up to 50 sales outlets. The goal is to place most Australian customers within a 40-minute drive of an XPeng showroom.
XPeng ANZ has appointed dealers across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia, with state support offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Several of Australia's top 10 dealer groups have joined the network.
XPeng ANZ's genuine parts warehouse, run in partnership with FedEx, is now operating out of Melbourne, handling national parts inventory and dealer technical support with next-day delivery across major states. Technical support runs across three levels: factory-trained dealer staff as first point of contact, remote diagnostics, and field technicians attending dealerships where needed.
XPeng ANZ is also working with the Australian Automotive Service and Repair Authority (AASRA) to bring its vehicles under the Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Information Sharing Scheme (MVIS), Australia's right-to-repair framework introduced in 2022. Once complete, independent repairers as well as authorised dealers will be able to access eligible XPeng service and repair information.
"Owners shouldn't be locked into us, they should choose us," said Brenton Dalton, National Service Development Manager at XPeng ANZ, on the reasoning behind the AASRA partnership.
Robots and Flying Cars
XPeng also used the event to introduce what it calls its Physical AI vision to Australia, describing a single in-house AI foundation spanning its EVs, humanoid robots and flying cars. The company's humanoid robot, IRON, runs the same foundation model as XPeng's cars and is being developed for customer-facing roles in XPeng stores, with mass production targeted for late 2026.
XPeng's Land Aircraft Carrier, a modular flying car pairing a ground vehicle with a detachable two-seat aircraft, has attracted 7000 orders globally to date, according to the company. Neither product has a confirmed Australian timeline.
Warranty and Ownership Support
XPeng ANZ is backing its Australian range with a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre factory warranty, supported by a dedicated customer care network with multiple contact channels and 24/7 roadside assistance.
