XPeng has locked in its Mona L03 mid-size SUV for Australia, revealing the model in Beijing overnight and confirming it will directly target the Geely EX5 and BYD Atto 3 on price. The L03 is the second model in XPeng's affordable Mona sub-brand and the first to offer a choice of battery-electric or range-extender hybrid power.
In Australia it will likely lose the "Mona" tag and be simply known as the Xpeng L03. Production has already started ahead of a global launch event in Germany in July 2026, though XPeng has not confirmed which variants it will bring to Australia or a specific on-sale date. The bigger news for local buyers is XPeng's VLA 2.0 self-driving system, which the brand has confirmed will come to Australia in 2027 at no extra charge, a point of difference from Tesla's paid Full Self-Driving subscription.
What's confirmed for Australia
XPeng Australia has not released local pricing or a launch date for the L03. Based on positioning against the EX5 and Atto 3, and the fact the 800-volt G6 starts at $54,800 before on-road costs, expect the 400-volt L03 to land around the $45,000 mark. This would price it around the Geely EX5 Complete which is the best selling model in the small/medium SUV segment.
The L03 is expected to be offered with two powertrains: a standard battery-electric version and an EREV range-extender hybrid, which XPeng markets as the Kunpeng Super Hybrid.
Design and dimensions
The L03 is a coupe-styled fastback SUV. XPeng lists the car at 4650mm long, 1920mm wide and 1600mm tall, with some homologation listings showing 4672mm depending on trim.
XPeng says the L03 has a drag coefficient as low as Cd 0.228, helped by a coupe-like stance, a wide, high-curvature rear windscreen, frameless doors and a 270-degree flat panoramic cockpit. For comparison, the Tesla Model Y has a drag coefficient of around Cd 0.22 and is 4,792 mm long.

Boot space is a claimed 539 litres, plus a 102-litre front trunk, though both figures shrink slightly on all-wheel drive and Super Hybrid models. Wheel sizes span 18 or 20 inches depending on trim.
Powertrain and range
The battery-electric L03 uses a single motor producing 183kW, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 6.5 seconds using the larger battery pack. Kerb weight is listed at 1855-1875kg and top speed is 180km/h. XPeng has also flagged an all-wheel drive variant.
Two LFP battery packs are planned, 56kWh and 71kWh, with XPeng claiming up to 520km of range for the larger pack. Official WLTP figures have not been finalised.
The EREV Super Hybrid keeps the 183kW motor and adds a 70kW 1.5-litre petrol engine acting purely as a generator. XPeng claims more than 1000km of total range from a 42-litre fuel tank and 37.2kWh battery, including up to 257km in electric-only mode.
Unlike the 800-volt G6, the L03 uses a 400-volt platform. XPeng claims a 10-80 percent DC top-up in around 20 minutes at an average of 149kW.
VLA 2.0 self-driving comes free
Every L03 will carry the same autonomous driving hardware: triple XPeng 'Turing AI' chips delivering up to 2250 TOPS of computing power. Like Tesla, XPeng's VLA 2.0 system relies on cameras (and radar) rather than lidar based approach by other brands such as BYD, Huawei, Waymo etc.
XPeng's head of international business, Alex Tang, has confirmed VLA 2.0 is on track for a 2027 launch in Australia at no additional cost to owners. That is a meaningful point of differentiation from Tesla, which charges $149 a month for its FSD (Supervised) subscription in Australia. Over five years, that works out to $8,940, the amount an XPeng owner would effectively save by getting VLA 2.0 included.

Zecar tested an earlier version of the system, VLA 1.0, in November 2025 and found it was already a strong performer. More recent testing suggests VLA 2.0 now rivals Tesla's FSD version 14.0 which is currently available in Australia. How well it performs on Australian roads on launch will depend on how much local driving data XPeng has gathered by the time it switches the system on here in 2027.
Cabin and standard equipment
The cabin follows a similar minimal layout to the G6, built around a large central touchscreen and a windscreen-projected head-up display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are expected for export markets, including Australia.
Standard equipment is expected to include integrated Google Maps, 256-colour ambient lighting, a 20-speaker stereo, heated, cooled and massaging front seats, dual wireless phone chargers and a panoramic sunroof. Safety kit includes seven airbags, driver monitoring, child presence detection and tyre blowout-specific stability control.

How the L03 compares
XPeng has positioned the L03 squarely against two of the best-selling electric SUVs in its price bracket. Here's how the expected specifications stack up against the Geely EX5 Extended Range and BYD Atto 3 Premium, based on confirmed Australian pricing for those two rivals.
While it is unconfirmed what the final Australian specifications will be, overseas figures indicate it will beat its key competition on acceleration, range and charging speeds.
Specification | XPeng L03 (BEV) | Geely EX5 Extended Range (Complete) | BYD Atto 3 Premium |
Price (before on-road costs) | $45,000(est.) | $41,990 | $44,990 |

WLTP range | Up to 520km | Up to 475km | 420km |
Motor power/torque | 183kW | 160kW / 320Nm | 150kW / 310Nm |
0-100km/h | 6.5 seconds (claimed) | 7.4 seconds | 7.3 seconds |
Max DC charging | 149kW average (400V) | 100kW | 88kW |
Advanced driver assist | VLA 2.0 (free) | Standard ADAS suite | Standard ADAS suite |
Could the L03 become XPeng's best seller in Australia?
XPeng's Mona M03 sedan has been a runaway success in China, passing 270,000 deliveries and contributing more than 40 percent of XPeng's total sales in 2025. The L03 carries the same value proposition into the beloved SUV segment. XPeng has already sold more than 2000 G6 SUVs locally, and a new 800-volt G6 is about to launch.
Given the L03's likely sharp pricing, strong claimed range and free self-driving tech, it's reasonable to think it could become one of XPeng's best-selling models, if not the best in Australia.
