Xpeng is returning to the Australian market on 1 July 2026 with the updated G6, a mid-size electric SUV competing in the same segment as the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X. The relaunch covers three variants: RWD Standard Range, RWD Long Range and AWD Performance.
The 2026 G6 is a significant update on the outgoing model. Key changes include an 800V electrical architecture, an upgraded XPILOT driver assistance suite powered by the Nvidia Orin-X chip, and new LFP battery packs with up to 525km of WLTP range. Pricing will be announced on launch day.
Variants and Specs
The G6 range covers three powertrains. All variants use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The Standard Range and Long Range are rear-wheel drive. The Performance adds a front motor for all-wheel drive.
Spec | RWD Standard Range | RWD Long Range | AWD Performance |
Battery (LFP) | 68.5 kWh | 80.8 kWh | 80.8 kWh |
Power / Torque | 185 kW / 440 Nm | 218 kW / 440 Nm | 358 kW / 660 Nm |
WLTP Range | 470 km | 525 km | 510 km |
0-100 km/h | 6.94 sec | 6.7 sec | 4.13 sec |
Energy consumption | 16.6 kWh/100km | 17.9 kWh/100km | 18.4 kWh/100km |
Pricing | TBC (1 July) | TBC (1 July) | TBC (1 July) |
WLTP figures are from standardised test conditions. Real-world range will vary depending on driving style, conditions and temperature.
Charging
The 2026 G6 moves to an 800V high-voltage architecture. Xpeng rates the peak DC charging rate at 451kW, which it claims delivers a 10-80% charge in as little as 12 minutes and adds up to 427km of range in 15 minutes.
These figures are quoted under DC test conditions. In the real world, the rate will depend on the charger output available. Australia's public DC fast-charging network does not yet widely support 400kW-plus speeds, so most owners will see lower peak rates in practice. The G6 also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) output up to 6kW.
XPILOT Driver Assistance
The updated XPILOT system runs on an Nvidia Orin-X chip rated at 254 TOPS (trillions of operations per second). Xpeng says the perception system covers a detection range equivalent to more than 1.8 football fields.
XPILOT is a Level 2 driver assistance system. The driver must remain in control at all times and is fully responsible for safe operation. Features include adaptive cruise control with lane centring, automatic lane change assistance, and adaptive turning cruise for low-speed urban driving.
The G6 also includes a full smart parking suite: remote parking via smartphone or key fob, fully automatic park-in and park-out, and a straight summon function for tight spaces.

Interior and Equipment
All G6 variants share a single baseline specification. The cabin is built around a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with satellite navigation and OTA software updates.
Standard seating is Nappa leather in Dark Grey or Light Grey. Front seats are 10-way power-adjustable with four-way lumbar, heating, ventilation, massage, memory, and a welcome function. Rear outboard seats are heated. A 9-inch digital rear-view mirror and dual 50W wireless phone chargers with cooling are fitted to all variants.
Audio is handled by an 18-speaker X-Opera 2.0 system with 7.1.4-channel sound. A panoramic glass roof with heat insulation, 256-colour ambient lighting and a microfibre headliner are standard across the range.
The RWD Standard Range comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels. The Long Range and AWD Performance use 20-inch rims. The 20-inch wheels are an option on the Standard Range.
Design and Dimensions
The updated G6 gets a full-width Starlight Wing LED lightbar at the front and a C-ring lighting signature at the rear. A ducktail spoiler is integrated into the tailgate. The drag coefficient is rated at Cd 0.248.
Michelin acoustic tyres are standard and Xpeng claims a 10dB reduction in cabin noise compared to standard tyres. Exterior colours include Arctic White, Stellar Purple, Midnight Black, Silver Frost and Graphite Grey.

Black Edition Pack
The AWD Performance is available with an optional Black Edition pack (price TBC). It adds black paint, 20-inch black-painted alloy wheels, smoked black exterior accents, smoked black front and rear logos, and black brake calipers.
Safety
The pre-update G6 holds a five-star Euro NCAP rating with scores of 88% adult occupant protection, 86% child occupant protection, 81% vulnerable road user protection and 80% safety assist. Xpeng says the facelifted model retains this rating, which should carry over to an ANCAP five-star result in Australia, though this has not been independently confirmed for the updated variant.
Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane centring, rear cross-traffic alert, surround-view camera, driver state monitoring, safe exit warning, remote parking assist and remote vehicle summons.
How the G6 Compares: Zeekr 7X and Tesla Model Y
Pricing for the 2026 G6 is not yet confirmed, which makes a direct value comparison difficult. The table below uses known Australian pricing for the Zeekr 7X and Tesla Model Y, and confirmed specs for all three. The G6 price column will be updated on 1 July 2026.

Xpeng ANZ Head of Marketing Damian Royce said: "The New G6 is designed for drivers who are ready to move beyond the baseline EV conversation. Range and charging performance are now table stakes. The question is what the vehicle does with its AI-driven intelligence. The New G6 answers that, wherever daily driving takes you."
