Chinese EV maker Xpeng has officially rolled out the updated 2025 G6 electric SUV in Thailand, marking another milestone in its expansion into right-hand-drive markets and setting the stage for an Australian launch.

The refreshed G6, first revealed in China earlier this year, brings cheaper pricing, faster charging, and upgraded driving tech compared to the outgoing model.

Charging and Battery Tech

One of the biggest improvements is charging speed. Thanks to its 800 V architecture, the G6 can now charge from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes -putting it close to the Zeekr 7X, which still holds the record for the fastest-charging production EV expected in Australia.

Both Thai-market variants use the 80.8 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, offering a balance of range, durability, and cost efficiency.

Smarter Driving Tech

The 2025 update introduces a significant step forward in driver assistance. The G6 now features:

  • 8 MP front and rear cameras
  • Dual Nvidia Orin chips
  • LiDAR-free intelligent driving system (already deployed in China)

This positions the G6 as one of the most advanced EVs in its class when it comes to semi-autonomous capability.

Design and Interior Updates

Visually, the G6 gets a subtle refresh with:

  • A new front light bar and reworked bumpers
  • Updated rear styling with a spoiler light strip
  • New wheel designs and paint colours (Orange has been dropped)
  • A slightly larger body length (+5 mm, now 4,758 mm)

Inside, drivers will find ambient lighting, a bigger centre screen, and updated trim materials, giving the cabin a more premium feel.

Looking Ahead to Australia

The G6 was first unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, with deliveries beginning in China later that year. Xpeng has since expanded into right-hand-drive markets including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the UK, using the G6 as its spearhead model.

For Australia, Xpeng has yet to confirm launch timing, but with the brand now active in multiple RHD markets and the G6 serving as its global entry car, an announcement seems increasingly likely.

Given its tech upgrades, faster charging, and competitive pricing, the G6 could arrive as a serious contender against rivals like the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X in the Australian EV space.
