Chinese EV upstart XPeng is set to roll out its own high-powered charging stations in Australia later this year, giving EV drivers a new ultra fast charging option.
Unveiled during the brand’s Global Brand Night, XPeng’s ultra-fast chargers will boast 480kW output across six outlets per station. That’s nearly double the power of Tesla’s current Superchargers, which top out at 250kW and already lead the market for public charging in Australia. It also substantially faster than the fast chargers in the ChargeFox network which top out at 350 kW.

Exact sites and rollout timelines haven’t been disclosed yet, but XPeng has demonstrated their ability to deliver on promises. This move is part of a broader global push to boost the brand’s visibility and control the full EV experience from vehicle to plug.
Right now, XPeng sells just one model in Australia: the G6 mid-size SUV. Its charging speed is up there with the fastest in the industry, capabable of a max DC rate of 280kW. The G6 can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes, faster than a Porsche Taycan (270kW).

That performance is set to be supported by infrastructure built to match. For context, there are currently only two publicly listed charging locations in Australia offering 200kW+ speeds, with just five plugs in total according to the Electric Vehicle Council. XPeng’s hardware could dramatically shift that picture.

More models are on the way, too. The G6 will soon be joined by the larger G9 SUV and the three-row X9 people mover before the end of the year. Then, in 2026, the sleek P7+ sedan is set to arrive, likely ready to take full advantage of XPeng’s own ultra-rapid network.
