The electric CLA 200 Shooting Brake costs $2,190 more than the petrol-hybrid, a gap of about 3 per cent. For that, the electric model has 165kW and 335Nm against 120kW and 250Nm for the hybrid, plus a 101-litre front boot.
For most buyers, a premium of about $2,000 is negligible at this price range. It also shows that price parity between electric and petrol or hybrid vehicles is starting to become more common in Australia, a shift Zecar also covered when BYD revealed Atto 1 pricing.
One of a handful of electric wagons in Australia
The CLA 200 Shooting Brake electric joins a small group of fully electric wagons in Australia. It sits alongside the BMW i5 Touring and the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, which both sit well above $150,000.
At $72,990, the Mercedes-Benz is one of only two models on that list priced, or expected to be priced, below $80,000. The other is the Zeekr 7GT, which Zeekr has not yet priced for Australia but is expected to start well below the CLA 200’s starting price.

Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 Shooting Brake electric vs Zeekr 7GT RWD
The Zeekr 7GT RWD is the closest rival to the electric CLA Shooting Brake on price and body style. Zeekr has not confirmed Australian pricing. Zecar estimates $52,000 to $55,500 before on-road costs.

The Zeekr has 170kW more power and a claimed 5.2 second 0-100km/h time. Mercedes-Benz has not published an acceleration figure for the Shooting Brake electric. Claimed range is close at up to 511km for the Mercedes-Benz and up to 525km for the Zeekr, and both cars use an 800-volt architecture.
Based on Zecar's estimate, the Mercedes-Benz costs about $17,000 to $21,500 more than the Zeekr. Mercedes-Benz fits the AMG Line, a panoramic glass roof and a 360-degree camera as standard.

Range, charging and drivetrain
The electric model has a rear motor making 165kW and 335Nm, paired with a two-speed transmission. Mercedes-Benz quotes up to 511km of WLTP range and 13.2kWh/100km, but has not said which specification achieves that figure or how large the battery is.
The 800-volt architecture allows DC charging at up to 320kW under optimal conditions, and AC charging at up to 22kW. Compare charging speeds across the fastest-charging EVs in Zecar's database, or compare home charging plans with EV Energy Compare.

Design, space and practicality
The Shooting Brake shares the CLA Coupé's front end and low roofline up to the B-pillar, then extends the roof rearwards for more space. Rear headroom is 26mm greater than in the Coupé, and front occupants gain 14mm of headroom and 11mm of legroom.
The luggage compartment holds 455 litres, or up to 1,290 litres with the rear seats folded, and the electric model adds a 101-litre frunk. Optional SKY CONTROL with e-shade switches the panoramic roof between transparent and opaque.

Technology and driver assistance
The CLA family runs on MB.OS and supports over-the-air updates, including for driver assistance. The fourth-generation MBUX uses artificial intelligence from Microsoft and Google, and navigation uses Google Maps data.
The optional MBUX Superscreen adds a front-passenger display, with dynamic content restricted to when the car is parked. Mercedes-Benz said a recent world-first public high-speed side-impact crash test involving two CLA models, including the Shooting Brake, showed outstanding occupant and battery protection.
