BYD has officially launched the Atto 3 Evo in New Zealand, the biggest update to the small SUV since it arrived in Australia in 2022. The Evo moves to BYD's 800V e-Platform 3.0 architecture and adds rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options alongside the existing front-wheel drive setup, with faster charging and more range across the lineup.
BYD Australia has not confirmed local pricing or a launch date for the Atto 3 Evo. But the gap between the outgoing Atto 3 and the new Evo in New Zealand provides an initial look so far to what Australian buyers might pay, and it points to a bigger increase than some earlier estimates have suggested.
What's new on the Atto 3 Evo
New Zealand deliveries begin this month, with the Atto 3 Evo landing in three variants. The entry-level Dynamic keeps the front-wheel-drive layout of the outgoing Atto 3. The Premium switches to rear-wheel drive with a bigger battery, and the Performance adds a second motor for all-wheel drive.

The outgoing Atto 3 was on runout in New Zealand at NZ$49,990 at the time of the Evo's launch. The source pricing wasn't broken down by trim, though the spec matches the Atto 3 Premium sold in Australia. BYD is offering existing Atto 3 owners a complimentary three-year service plan if they trade in on a new Evo.
What the price jump could mean for Australia
The clearest read on likely Australian pricing comes from comparing the new Dynamic with the model it replaces. In New Zealand, the outgoing Atto 3 was priced at NZ$49,990. The new Dynamic costs NZ$59,990, a rise of NZ$10,000, or about 20 percent, despite carrying over the same 60.48kWh battery and 150kW motor unchanged.
Atto 3 Evo Dynamic Price
That comparison matters because the current Australian Atto 3 Premium Extended Range, which uses that same 60.48kWh battery, 150kW motor and 420km WLTP range, is priced from $44,990 before on-road costs. Applying the same roughly 20 percent increase to that figure puts a like-for-like Australian Atto 3 Evo Dynamic at around $53,000 to $55,000 before on-road costs. Given the competitive nature of the small SUV segment with the Geely EX5 Complete ($41,990 plus ORC) and Leapmotor B10 Design LR ($42,980 driveaway) - that premium is unlikely. To remain competitive the Atto 3 Dynamic will likely need to start from $45,000 plus ORC. BYD’s reputation and its advantage in having a larger dealership network (compared to new rivals) can only take it so far.
Atto 3 Evo Premium Price
For the Premium variant, in New Zealand it costs NZ$65,990, a 32 percent increase on the outgoing Atto 3's price, or 10 percent more than the new Dynamic. Applying the same uplift to the Australian baseline puts the Atto 3 Evo Premium at roughly $58,000 to $61,000 before on-road costs. To remain competitive with the competition and to sit below the BYD Sealion 7 Premium ($54,990 plus ORC), Atto 3 Premium price will need to start between $50,000 to $53,000 plus ORC.

When the Atto 3 Evo is coming to Australia
BYD Australia approved the Atto 3 Evo, including the 330kW AWD Performance variant, for local sale back in February, and opened registrations of interest for the range in July. A leaked dealer document that surfaced shortly after registrations opened showed only two local trims, Dynamic and Premium, with no AWD variant listed. BYD Australia has not confirmed a launch date, final pricing, or the local specification, so it remains unclear whether the AWD Performance model will make the initial Australian lineup.
