BYD Australia has opened registrations of interest for the Atto 3 Evo, the biggest update of its compact SUV since it arrived here in February 2022. Pricing has not been released nor has colour range or final specification.
BYD has already acquired regulatory approval for the drivetrains BYD plans to bring to Australia, and the company has pointed to the second half of 2026 for local showrooms. In the meantime, the clearest picture of what's coming comes from the UK and Europe, where the Evo has been on sale since April.
Major Drivetrain Upgrades
The UK-spec Atto 3 Evo drops the outgoing car's 49.9kWh and 60.5kWh battery options for a single 74.8kWh LFP Blade Battery pack across the range. BYD's UK arm quotes WLTP range of up to 510km on the single-motor version and 470km on the dual-motor flagship.
Power increases with it. The rear-drive variant produces 230kW and 380Nm, enough for a 5.5-second 0-100km/h time. The all-wheel-drive version adds a second motor over the front axle for 330kW combined and 560Nm, cutting the 0-100km/h time to 3.9 seconds. Both figures are a significant step up from the current Atto 3, which uses a single 150kW/310Nm front-mounted motor.
Charging sees the biggest jump. The Evo's 800-volt architecture supports 220kW DC charging, more than double the 88kW ceiling on the current Premium and more than triple the 70kW rate on the entry Essential. BYD claims a 10-80% charge in 25 minutes.

Figures reflect the UK-spec Atto 3 Evo. Power outputs match the drivetrains already approved for the Australian market, but local pricing, range and equipment are yet to be confirmed by BYD Australia.
Cabin and Technology Updates
The 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen carries over from the current car, paired with a larger digital driver's display. BYD has also built Google's software directly into the infotainment system, rather than relying solely on CarPlay or Android Auto. The gear selector has moved from the centre console to a stalk on the steering column, freeing up a storage bay where the shifter used to sit.
Boot space grows by 50 litres to 490 litres due to repackaging around the new battery, and there's a small front boot under the bonnet for charging cables.
Australia’s Atto 3 is no longer the same as China’s Yuan Plus
BYD launched an entirely different, third-generation Atto 3 in China in May, sold there as the Yuan Plus. That car runs a newer Blade Battery 2.0 pack with flash charging, claimed to go from 10-70% in around five minutes.
New Zealand is expected to receive that flash-charging version in 2027, badged there as the Atto 5 rather than Atto 3. What's coming to Australia this year is a different car: the mid-cycle Evo update already sold in the UK and parts of Europe. It's a smaller technical jump than China's new Atto 3, but still the most substantial change this generation of Atto 3 has seen.
Australian Approval and Timing
Both the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive Atto 3 Evo variants have cleared Australian Government approval, covering the same 230kW and 330kW outputs sold overseas. BYD Australia confirmed at its Shark 6 Performance media launch in May that two new models and two updated models are locked in for the second half of 2026. The Atto 3 Evo is understood to be one of those updates, though BYD has not named it directly.
Where This Leaves Pricing
The current Atto 3 range starts at $39,990 plus on-road costs for the Essential and tops out at $44,990 for the Premium. BYD Australia has not put a figure on the Evo but given the major upgrades, pricing is likely to start from at least $45,000 plus on-road costs.
The small SUV segment has also filled out considerably since the Atto 3 arrived in 2022, when it had little direct competition. By the time the Evo launches, it will be up against the Geely EX5, Jaecoo J5, Chery E5, MG S5 and Leapmotor B10, among others.
