The main change is Volkswagen's latest Innovision infotainment system. It uses a 12.9-inch touchscreen and adds integrated satellite navigation. Volkswagen said the system also improves usability.
The Australian ID.4 already had a 12.9-inch screen, so the display size is unchanged. The new parts are the software and the built-in navigation.

Physical steering wheel controls also return. Earlier ID models used touch-sensitive pads on the wheel. Volkswagen said the change makes the car more intuitive to use.
The new navigation also enables an enhanced ID. Light system. This is a thin LED strip at the base of the windscreen that gives visual guidance prompts, including animated arrows for upcoming turns.
Driving Experience Selection with Atmospheres
The MY27 ID.4 adds Driving Experience Selection with Atmospheres. It lets occupants personalise the cabin by adjusting a range of comfort and convenience settings together.
Volkswagen has not listed which settings each Atmosphere changes.
New safety and driver assistance features
Volkswagen has added five driver assistance features across the ID.4 range:
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Front Cross Traffic Assist
- Proactive Occupant Protection System
- Predictive Speed Limiter
- Enhanced Area View surround-view camera system
Predictive Speed Limiter works with Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Sign Recognition. It adjusts the car's speed automatically when the speed limit changes.
According to Volkswagen, the Area View camera system gains optimised guidance and wheel protection technology.

Battery and charging
The MY27 update revises battery capacity on both variants. Volkswagen said the ID.4 Pro now has a larger 84kWh gross battery. The ID.4 GTX uses an 82kWh gross battery.
Both variants continue to support DC fast charging at up to 175kW on compatible public charging networks.
Volkswagen quoted gross capacity only. Usable battery capacity, driving range and power outputs for the MY27 models were not included in the announcement.
How the ID.4 fits in the Australian EV market
The ID.4 competes in the mid-size electric SUV segment against models such as the Tesla Model Y. It shares Volkswagen Group's MEB platform with the Skoda Enyaq.
The MY27 update mainly adds technology and safety equipment rather than changing the drivetrain. You can compare range, charging speeds and pricing against rivals in the Zecar EV database.

What Volkswagen said
Piergiorgio Minto, Brand Director of Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles, said the updates reinforce the company's commitment to improving the ownership experience for Australian customers.
"The MY27 updates introduce a meaningful range of enhancements across technology, safety and personalisation, further strengthening the appeal of the ID. 4 range for Australian customers," Mr Minto said.
"With a new-generation infotainment system, additional driver assistance technologies and expanded customisation options, the MY27 ID. 4 delivers an even more compelling all-electric SUV offering."
When can you buy the MY27 ID.4?
Volkswagen said the MY27 ID.4 range is available now in showrooms across Australia.
Both variants are priced below the luxury car tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles. That is one of the conditions for the electric car fringe benefits tax exemption, which can lower the cost of an EV novated lease for eligible employees.
