Key Specs and Features
The MG4 EV Urban is built around MG's 6-in-1 electric drive system. This integrates multiple drivetrain components into a single compact unit, reducing weight and freeing up interior space. MG says this increases passenger and luggage space by 20% compared to the standard MG4. A high-efficiency heat pump isalso standard.
MG4 EV Urban vs MG4 Line-up: How It Compares
The MG4 EV Urban sits below the existing MG4 range in price. It uses a different platform with front-wheel drive system, while the standard MG4 uses rear-wheel drive. Here is how the full MG4 family lines up.
MG4 Full Line-up Comparison
Model | Battery | Range (WLTP) | Power | 0-100km/h | DC Charging | AC Charging | Drive | Price (DA) |
MG4 Urban Standard | 43kWh | ~300km | 110kW | TBC | 150kW | 7.4kW | FWD | $31,990 |
MG4 Urban Long Range | 54kWh | ~415km | 118kW | TBC | 150kW | 7.4kW | FWD | TBC |
MG4 Excite 51 | 51kWh | 350km | 125kW | 7.7s | 88kW | 6.6kW | RWD | $34,888 |
MG4 Excite 64 | 64kWh | 450km | 150kW | 7.9s | 140kW | 6.6kW | RWD | $45,115 |
MG4 Essence 64 | 64kWh | 435km | 150kW | 7.9s | 140kW | 6.6kW | RWD | $48,219 |
MG4 Long Range 77 | 77kWh | 530km | 180kW | 6.5s | 144kW | 11kW | RWD | $54,519 |
The Urban is the only front-wheel drive model in the MG4 family. It trades the rear-wheel drive dynamics of the standard MG4 for a more compact, city-focused package with a larger boot (568L vs ~350L) and a longer wheelbase for better rear passenger space.
MG4 Urban vs Key Rivals
The MG4 EV Urban enters a competitive segment. Its closest rivals are the BYD Dolphin, GAC Aion UT, and GWM Ora. All are compact electric hatchbacks priced under $40,000 drive away.
The BYD Dolphin Essential starts from $33,792 drive away with a 44.96kWh battery and 410km WLTP range. Its 70kW motor is modest, with a 0-100km/h time of around 12.3 seconds. The Premium steps up to a 60.48kWh battery, 150kW motor, 490km range, and a 7.0-second 0-100 time.
The GAC Aion UT starts from $31,990 before on-road costs. It uses a 60kWh battery with a 150kW motor and 430km WLTP range. AC charging is up to 11kW and DC charging up to 87kW. It is a strong value proposition but lacks the MG brand recognition and dealer network.
The GWM Ora Lux starts from $35,990 drive away with a 57.7kWh LFP battery and 400km WLTP range. The 126kW motor takes around 9.0 seconds to reach 100km/h. The Ora is now built in Thailand and comes with V2L as standard.
