How It Compares

The Aion UT will compete in the small electric hatchback segment which features the BYD Dolphin, MG4 (RWD and Urban EV) and GWM Ora.

At $31,990, the Aion UT Premium sits $2,000 above the BYD Dolphin Essential. However, the Aion UT has a larger battery (60kWh vs 44.96kWh), More range (+70km), more power (150kW vs 70kW) and a much quicker 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds compared to 12.3 seconds for the Dolphin Essential.

The MG4 Urban has not been officially priced for Australia yet, but is expected to start in the low $30,000s. Its base 43kWh battery is smaller than the Aion UT, and its estimated range of 325km falls short. The MG4 Urban is the longest of the group at 4395mm.

The GWM Ora Lux starts from $34,490 D/A, making it the most expensive (albeit marginally) of the four. It has a 57.7kWh battery and 126kW motor, with a 0-100km/h time of 9.0 seconds. Its boot space starts at just 228 litres, which is notably smaller than the others.

What to Expect at Launch

GAC is expected to confirm official Australian pricing and full specifications soon. The Aion UT will be the brand's fourth model in Australia (second fully electric), joining the Aion V electric SUV, the Emzoom petrol SUV and the M8 plug-in hybrid people mover.

GAC entered the Australian market in late 2025 and has already established a local parts warehouse in Melbourne. The Aion UT is aimed squarely at buyers looking for an affordable electric hatchback with a larger battery than the entry-level competition.
