The Leapmotor B10 has flown under the radar despite being one of the best value small electric SUVs in Australia.
The B10 is Leapmotor's second EV in Australia. Our recommendation (the one being reviewed) is the top-spec B10 Design Long Range, priced from $40,888 before on-road costs. It competes in Australia's growing small electric SUV segment against rivals such as the MG S5 EV, BYD Atto 3 and Geely EX5.
It is one of the most well-rounded cars in the segment. Its solid in all areas, its handling and software in particular punch well above what you would expect at this price.
Sales figures however have not lived up to the capability of the car. Leapmotor has sold 511 B10s in Australia so far to June 2026. That makes it the 24th best-selling vehicle nationally and the 7th best-selling small electric SUV, behind segment leaders like the BYD Atto 2, BYD Atto 3, Jaecoo J5 and Kia EV3.
That is despite Leapmotor's strength as a manufacturer. In China, Leapmotor was the second best-selling NEV brand in June 2026, delivering 93,376 vehicles and trailing only BYD, according to figures compiled by CarNewsChina.

Exterior Design
The B10 is a good looking car. Leapmotor has given it slim, staggered daytime running lights and a clean, uncluttered nose, and from some angles, particularly from the rear three-quarter, it can resemble a Porsche Macan. That is a flattering comparison for a car costing a fraction of the price.
Entry is keyless in the sense that there is no fob. Instead, the B10 uses a credit card-style key you tap against the driver's door mirror to unlock the car, a system that can take a few attempts to get right.

Interior, Space and Technology
The dash uses an unusual six-hole layout for its vents and switchgear. It looks odd at first, but it does not get in the way of anything. Beyond that quirk, the interior is above average for the segment. Material quality is good for the price and the cabin feels genuinely spacious, both up front and in the back seat.
The 14.6-inch touchscreen is a genuine highlight. It is sharp, quick to respond and logically laid out, and a split-screen mode lets you resize and drag sections around the display. Built-in satnav includes real-time traffic and charging-station recommendations. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both included, wired and wireless. Of the electric cars we have driven, only Tesla's software is a clear step ahead of this.
Wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, which is notable because their absence was the biggest omission on the Leapmotor C10. The B10 gets it as standard equipment from launch.
The cabin uses very few physical buttons, with most functions controlled through the touchscreen. That may not suit every driver, but the screen's responsiveness and logical menu layout meant it was not an inconvenience for us.
Boot space is a useful 430 litres, and there is a small 25-litre frunk for cable storage. Safety tech includes a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors and a 17-function ADAS suite covering adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, backed by a 5-star ANCAP rating.
On the Road
This is one of the better driving small electric SUVs on sale. The B10 uses a rear-wheel drive layout with close to 50:50 weight distribution, and its chassis was tuned by a team of Maserati engineers within Stellantis, which owns 51 percent of Leapmotor International. On the road, body control is tidy, the steering is precise for a car in this class, and it changes direction with more enthusiasm than most electric SUVs at this price.
Leapmotor's claimed 0-100km/h time of 8.0 seconds is not particularly impressive on paper next to some rivals. In everyday driving it is more than enough for darting around town and overtaking on the freeway, and the instant torque off the line makes it feel quicker than the number suggests.

Battery, Range and Charging
The 67.1kWh LFP battery is rated at 434km WLTP, which is a solid figure for daily driving with margin left over for the occasional longer trip. This range claim was consistent with what we experienced during our time with the B10 which comprised a mix of city street and highway driving in and aroun Sydney.
Charging speed is solid, above average for the price range. DC fast charging peaks at 168kW, with a 30 to 80 percent charge taking around 20 minutes. AC home charging is capped at 11kW, which is good for a full charge overnight on a three-phase connection.

Should You Buy the Leapmotor B10 Design Long Range?
The B10 Design Long Range is one of the best value small electric SUVs on sale in Australia, and it has largely flown under the radar. It backs up good looks with genuinely engaging handling, thanks to its rare rear-wheel drive layout and Maserati-tuned chassis, and pairs that with some of the best software of any car on sale.
If you want a small electric SUV that is well rounded in all areas, and one that is genuinely enjoyable to drive, the B10 Design Long Range should be on your shortlist.
One thing worth weighing up is dealer network size. Leapmotor currently has just 22 dealers across Australia, fewer than more established brands, so it is worth checking how close your nearest dealer is before you buy, particularly if you are outside a capital city.
