Camouflaged XPeng L03 Prototype Spotted Testing Again in Australia

A camouflaged XPeng L03 has been spotted on Australian roads once again, providing fresh evidence that the Chinese EV maker is continuing local testing ahead of the model's expected Australian launch in 2027.

The latest sighting was shared by Facebook user David Keir in the Electric Vehicles in Australia group, who posted three images of the heavily disguised SUV with the caption:

"I thought this was the new XPeng, now not so sure. Looks about Camry sized with a bit more height/depth."

Although the vehicle remains wrapped in camouflage, its proportions, roofline and overall silhouette closely match the XPeng L03 already revealed overseas.

The latest sighting follows another Australian prototype that was photographed charging in Sydney earlier this month, suggesting XPeng's local validation program is gathering pace.

Another Australian Prototype Emerges

Unlike the previous Sydney sighting, which offered a glimpse of the cabin during charging, this latest prototype was photographed while driving and provides another look at the L03 undergoing Australian road testing.

The camouflage conceals most exterior styling details, but the fastback-inspired profile remains obvious. The vehicle appears similar in size to a Toyota Camry, albeit with a taller SUV-style stance, echoing the observations made in the Facebook post.

Australian manufacturers commonly test new vehicles locally to fine-tune suspension, steering, safety systems and software before launch. Continued sightings indicate the L03 is progressing through that process.

What We Know About the XPeng L03

XPeng confirmed earlier this month that the L03 will join its Australian lineup, sitting below the G6 as the brand's new entry-level SUV.

Designed to compete against popular electric SUVs such as the BYD Atto 3, Geely EX5 and MG S5 EV, the L03 is expected to offer competitive pricing alongside XPeng's latest software and driver assistance technologies.

Overseas, the model is available with a 183kW rear-mounted electric motor paired with either a 56kWh or 69kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering up to 625km of CLTC driving range. A range-extender variant combining the electric drivetrain with a 1.5-litre petrol generator has also been introduced in China.

XPeng has yet to confirm which powertrains will be offered in Australia.

A second Australian sighting within weeks reinforces that XPeng's local development program is well underway.

While the company has not announced an official launch date, the continued appearance of camouflaged prototypes suggests engineers are conducting real-world validation before local specifications are finalised.

When it arrives, the L03 is expected to become one of XPeng Australia's most important models. Positioned below the G6, it will target the country's fast-growing mid-size electric SUV segment and compete directly with the BYD Atto 3, Geely EX5 and other value-focused EVs.

Australian pricing and final specifications are expected to be announced closer to the vehicle's local launch, which is widely tipped for 2027.
