Key Points
- A camouflaged XPeng L03 test vehicle was photographed charging at East Village Shopping Centre in Zetland, Sydney.
- A photo of the interior shows the the possible presence of a driver's instrument cluster, not available in the Chinese-market L03.
- The L03 is confirmed for Australia but is not due to launch locally until 2027.
A camouflaged XPeng L03 has been spotted charging at East Village Shopping Centre in Zetland, giving an early look at a car Australians will not be able to buy until 2027. XPeng confirmed the L03 for the Australian market in July 2026, positioning it below the G6 and targeting rivals such as the Geely EX5 and BYD Atto 3.
The test car is heavily camouflaged, similar to other L03 prototypes already spotted testing on Victoria's Great Ocean Road. The interior photo hints at a possible difference between the local car and the version already on sale in China.
Spotted Charging in Zetland
The L03 was photographed plugged into a public DC charger at East Village Shopping Centre in Zetland, in Sydney's inner south. Despite heavy camouflage wrap covering the body, the car's fastback roofline, front-light design and general proportions line up with the Mona L03 that XPeng revealed in China in June 2026.
What the Interior Photo Shows
A separate photo of the L03's interior shows the dashboard covered by a cloth, a common way manufacturers hide cabin details during local validation testing. Behind the steering wheel, the cloth has a visible kink, which suggests there may be a raised instrument cluster underneath.
This is worth noting because the Chinese-market Mona L03 does not have a traditional driver's instrument cluster. Instead, it relies on a large windscreen-projected head-up display, reported at 26.8 inches, alongside the 15.6-inch central touchscreen. If the local test car does have a physical cluster behind the wheel, it would point to a design change for right-hand-drive or Australian-market cars. XPeng has not confirmed this, so this should be treated as speculative until XPeng releases official local specifications.

Confirmed for Australia, But Not Until 2027
XPeng has confirmed the L03 for Australia, with the brand's head of international business, Alex Tang, saying the car will launch locally with VLA 2.0 self-driving included at no extra cost. The Chinese-market car is offered with a 183kW rear-mounted motor across two LFP battery packs (56kWh and 69kWh) for a claimed CLTC range of up to 625km (~500km WLTP), plus a range-extender variant pairing the same motor with a 1.5-litre petrol generator engine.
Despite that confirmation, XPeng has not locked in a firm on-sale date, and local reporting points to a launch in late 2026 or, more likely, 2027. A Sydney sighting like this one indicates validation testing is underway on Australian roads ahead of that launch, but it does not change the timing. Buyers hoping to get behind the wheel of the L03 in local showrooms should still expect a wait into 2027.
