Key Points
- BYD is offering $3,000 cashback on the Shark 6 Premium, Sealion 5, Sealion 6, and Sealion 8 for orders placed by 29 June and delivered by 30 June 2026.
- The offer cannot be combined with any other promotion and excludes fleet buyers, demo vehicles, and the Shark 6 Dynamic and Performance variants.
- PHEV sales in Australia rose 270 per cent year-on-year in April 2026, with BYD's Shark 6 and Sealion 6 among the most popular plug-in hybrid models on the market.
BYD Australia is offering $3,000 cashback across four of its most popular models ahead of the end of the financial year. The offer covers the Shark 6 Premium PHEV ute, the Sealion 5 SUV, the Sealion 6 PHEV SUV, and the Sealion 8 SUV, and runs until 30 June 2026.
This is one of several EOFY deals expected to emerge across the EV and PHEV market in the lead-up to 30 June, as brands look to clear stock and boost registrations before the financial year closes. BYD is also running a 1.88% p.a. comparison rate finance offer and a 5% novated lease discount on its EV range over the same period.
What the cashback offer covers
The $3,000 cashback (inc. GST) applies to the following models and variants:
BYD $3,000 cashback eligible models
Model | Eligible variants |
BYD Shark 6 | Premium only (Dynamic and Performance excluded) |
BYD Sealion 5 | All variants (Essential, Premium) |
BYD Sealion 6 | All variants (Essential, Dynamic Extended, Premium Extended) |
BYD Sealion 8 | All variants (Dynamic FWD, Dynamic AWD, Premium AWD) |
To qualify, buyers must order between 1 April and 29 June 2026, and take delivery by 30 June 2026. BYD Australia says it will review orders placed within the campaign period that cannot be delivered by 30 June on a case-by-case basis, and may approve an extension.
The cashback is not available to fleet customers, buyers of demonstrator or service loan vehicles, or anyone using another promotional offer or discount at the same time. The Sealion 7 is excluded from the cashback offer.
Finance offer also available
Alongside the cashback, BYD is running a 1.88% p.a. comparison rate finance offer on the same models. The deal applies to a 3-year loan term with no minimum deposit and no balloon payment permitted. It excludes demo vehicles and is available to approved consumer and commercial applicants (excluding government, fleet, and rental buyers) who apply by 29 June and settle and take delivery by 30 June 2026.
The comparison rate is based on a secured consumer fixed rate loan of $30,000 over 5 years. Different loan amounts and terms will produce different comparison rates. The cashback and finance offers cannot be combined.
Novated lease discount on the EV range
BYD is also offering a 5% novated lease discount on its full battery-electric range, including the Atto 1, Atto 2, Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, and Sealion 7. The discount applies to the base vehicle list price and excludes registration, CTP, stamp duty, dealer delivery, and statutory charges. Vehicles must be ordered between 1 April and 30 June 2026 and delivered by 31 July 2026. Orders must be processed through an approved novated lease provider or fleet management organisation.

How the discounted models are selling
The models covered by the cashback are among BYD's strongest performers in Australia. In April 2026, BYD recorded 7,702 total sales, making it the second-best-selling brand in the country for the month, behind only Toyota. The Shark 6 recorded 1,371 deliveries in April, while the Sealion 8 posted 929. The Sealion 5 and Sealion 6 recorded 464 and 476 deliveries respectively.
For context, BYD sold 52,415 vehicles in Australia in 2025, a 156.2 per cent increase on the 20,418 sold in 2024. The brand reached 100,000 total Australian sales in 2026, with more than half of those coming in the 12 months prior.
BYD cashback models - April 2026 sales (VFACTS)
Model | April 2026 sales |
BYD Shark 6 | 1,371 |
BYD Sealion 8 | 929 |
BYD Sealion 6 | 476 |
BYD Sealion 5 | 464 |
PHEV sales surging in 2026
The timing of BYD's cashback offer aligns with a broader surge in plug-in hybrid vehicle sales across Australia. According to VFACTS data, PHEV sales in April 2026 reached 9,628 units, up 270 per cent year-on-year. The comparison is partly distorted by the fact that April 2025 was the first month after the Fringe Benefits Tax exemption for PHEVs was removed, which had previously supercharged demand in the lead-up to that deadline.
Even accounting for that base effect, the underlying trend is clear. PHEVs are attracting buyers who want to reduce fuel costs without committing fully to battery-electric driving. High fuel prices have accelerated this shift, and BYD's Shark 6 and Sealion 6 are two of the most prominent PHEV options in the Australian market.
BYD has indicated that its next wave of Australian model launches will be heavy on plug-in hybrids, suggesting the brand sees PHEVs as a key growth area in this market.
