The sporty BYD Seal electric sedan returns for 2025 in three distinct variants, each defined by different battery size and powertrain configurations.
All models feature BYD’s advanced lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery, engineered for superior safety, durability, and longevity.
Dynamic (Standard Range)
The BYD Seal Dynamic kicks off the lineup with a 61.44kWh LFP Blade battery, powering a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 150kW and 310Nm. This translates to a 0-100km/h sprint in 7.6 seconds, while WLTP range is rated at 460km.
Charging options include 7kW AC (single-phase) and 110kW DC fast charging via a CCS2 connector.
Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels and most of the key tech found across the Seal range. However, you’ll need to move up to the Premium or Performance models for extras like driver seat memory, a digital head-up display, additional seat adjustments, and a premium leather interior.
Premium (Extended Range)
The Seal Premium steps things up with an upgraded 82.56kWh LFP Blade battery. It retains the single rear-mounted motor, but output jumps to 230kW and 360Nm, slicing the 0-100km/h time down to 5.9 seconds. Range is extended to 570km (NEDC).
Upgrading to the Seal Premium unlocks nearly all available features, including 19-inch alloys wrapped in 235/45 R19 tyres and faster 150kW DC charging (though AC charging remains capped at 7kW). Other upgrades include the head-up display, driver seat memory, enhanced seat adjustments, genuine leather upholstery, and upgraded brake discs for improved stopping power.
Performance (AWD)
The top of the line Seal Performance is BYD’s answer to the Tesla Model 3 Performance. It packs the same 82.56kWh battery as the Premium but features an all-wheel drive drivetrain by gaining a second motor up front, bringing total power output to 390kW and 670Nm. This slashes the 0-100km/h sprint to just 3.8 seconds—hence the "3.8s" badge proudly displayed on the boot. However, with great power comes slightly reduced range, rated at 520km.
Beyond sheer speed, the Seal Performance adds extra hardware to handle its brutal acceleration. This includes BYD’s iTAC (Intelligent Torque Adaption Control)—a sophisticated torque vectoring system—and upgraded adaptive shock absorbers on both axles for sharper handling.
Strangely, BYD has chosen to keep the electronic child lock and heated steering wheel exclusive to the Performance model.

BYD Seal 2025: Dimensions, Space & Practicality
The 2025 BYD Seal measures 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,460mm in height, with a spacious 2,920mm wheelbase. This makes it 80mm longer than the Tesla Model 3 and 194mm longer than the Polestar 2, giving it a significant presence on the road.
When compared to BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedans, the Seal is similar in length but benefits from a longer wheelbase—translating to enhanced interior space, thanks to its dedicated EV architecture (e-Platform 3.0).
Despite its size, the Seal maintains a relatively tight turning circle of 11.40m, making city driving and parking more manageable.
For practicality, the Seal features a 400L rear boot plus a 53L front trunk (frunk), offering ample storage for an EV sedan.
Kerb weight varies by variant:
- Dynamic (RWD): 1,922kg
- Premium (RWD): 2,055kg
- Performance (AWD): 2,185kg
With a low center of gravity and aerodynamic design, the BYD Seal balances performance, comfort, and practicality, making it a strong contender in the EV sedan market.

The BYD Seal is covered by a six-year/150,000km vehicle warranty and an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty.
However, shorter specific warranties will likely apply to individual, such as the touchscreen system, suspension, and air-conditioning filters.
Servicing every 12 months/20,000km, with a free three-month/5000km initial service also needed. Unlike the Atto 3 small SUV, a "short mileage" servicing schedule is not available for owners who drive less than the 20,000KM/year requirement. This may change as more information is released.
Roadside assistance is included for 12 months only.
BYD Australia recommends servicing their electric cars can be serviced at certified service centres run by Eagers Automotive or select Mycar Tyre and Auto mechanics locations (listed here).
