Xpeng's Mona L05 mid-size SUV has been photographed in China ahead of a global launch. The car appeared in images on 29 August 2026, having already been exposed through a filing with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The L05 is the third model in Xpeng's mass-market Mona range, sitting above the L03 crossover and the M03 sedan. It matters for Australian buyers because Xpeng has flagged the L05 for a local launch in 2027, arriving after the L03, which is confirmed for Australia in the fourth quarter of 2026.
What the Photos Show
The photos show a closed-off front end with Y-shaped headlights and a sloped bonnet. The door handles are semi-hidden, the roofline has a floating design, and the rear uses a single-piece taillight unit. The car rides on 20-inch wheels and has cameras built into the body for blind spot monitoring. Yellow brake calipers are visible behind the wheels.
Inside, the L05 uses a large dashboard-mounted screen and a two-spoke oval steering wheel. The cabin follows a minimalist layout, with a wireless phone charger, two cup holders and a curved storage compartment running through the centre tunnel.
Size and Positioning
The L05 measures 4,870mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,636mm tall, with a 2,940mm wheelbase. It seats five and is classified as a mid-size SUV, making it larger than the L03 crossover that sits below it in Xpeng's line-up.
The L05 is the third model built on Xpeng's Mona sub-brand, which targets high-volume, mainstream buyers rather than Xpeng's more premium models such as the G6 and G9. It follows the M03 sedan and the L03 crossover, both already on sale in China.
Powertrain and Range
Xpeng offers the L05 in China with a choice of two powertrains: a battery electric (BEV) version, and a range-extender electric (EREV) version that pairs an electric motor with a small petrol engine used only to charge the battery, not to drive the wheels.
