Deepal’s Growing Australian Presence
Deepal, a sub-brand of Chinese automotive giant Changan, has been steadily increasing its presence in Australia this year. The company’s local distributor, Inchcape, first showcased the S05 at Sydney’s Everything Electric Show in March, followed by another appearance at the Melbourne Motor Show in April.
The S05 will join Deepal's line-up in Australia which comprises the S07 SUV and E09 multi-truck.

Deepal Australia’s General Manager Cormac Cafolla described the S05 as “the smaller sibling to the S07 — just as innovative, but in a more compact package.”
With the larger S07 already on sale locally from $53,990 before on-roads, the S05 is expected to serve as the brand’s entry-level electric SUV when it launches later this year.

How the S05 Shapes Up
Positioned below the S07, the S05 is roughly 4.62 metres long, similar in size to the Geely EX5. Built on a rear-wheel-drive BEV platform, it’s designed to balance performance, range, and affordability.
Key Performance Specs
- Power output: 175 kW
- Torque: 320 Nm
- Acceleration (0–100 km/h): 7.3 seconds
- Top speed: 180 km/h

Battery, Range and Charging
Under the floor sits a 56.1 kWh LFP battery, offering up to 470 km of NEDC range — or an estimated 400 km on the WLTP cycle, which aligns with other mid-sized EVs in this price bracket.
Charging Highlights
- DC fast charging: Up to 150 kW (30–80% in ~15 minutes)
- AC charging: 6.6 kW (ideal for overnight home charging)
- Vehicle-to-load (V2L): Yes — useful for powering small appliances or devices
What’s Next for Deepal Australia
Following the recent arrival of the E07 Multitruck, Deepal appears to be building momentum with a two-pronged local strategy:
- The E07 caters to commercial and utility-focused buyers.
- The S05 targets mainstream SUV shoppers looking for value and everyday usability in an EV.
With evaluation vehicles already on local roads, an official announcement on Australian specifications and pricing is expected in the coming weeks.
If Deepal can deliver the S05 close to its projected $45,000 price point, it could become one of the most affordable long-range EV SUVs available in Australia.
