BYD has announced two new plug-in hybrid models for Australia: the Seal 6 Sedan and the Seal 6 Touring. Both go on sale from 9 April 2026. They join a growing BYD lineup that now spans sedans, SUVs and utes.

Pricing

The Seal 6 Sedan Essential is priced from $34,990 plus on-road costs. The Seal 6 Touring Premium is priced from $39,990 plus on-road costs. Optional colours and features cost extra.

Two Body Styles

The Seal 6 comes in two body styles. The Sedan has a traditional boot and a drag coefficient of Cd 0.255. The Touring is a wagon-style body with a powered tailgate and roof rails.

The Touring offers up to 670 litres of cargo space. With the rear seats folded, that grows to 1,535 litres. Both share a 2,790mm wheelbase, which gives good rear-seat legroom and a flat rear floor.

Powertrain and Range

Both models use BYD DM 5.0 Super Hybrid technology. This pairs a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with an electric motor and LFP Blade Battery. The petrol engine has a thermal efficiency of 46 per cent.

The Seal 6 Sedan Essential has a 10.08kWh battery and 55km of electric-only range (WLTP). Its estimated total range exceeds 1,400km on a single tank. The Seal 6 Touring Premium has a 19kWh battery and 100km of electric-only range (WLTP). Its estimated total range exceeds 1,300km.

These figures are based on WLTC testing and converted to WLTP-equivalent values. Actual range will vary depending on driving conditions, load and climate.
