BYD Australia improves warranty: longer, simpler and back dated to include early buyers in 2022
BYD has announced a significant upgrade to its warranty policy, now offering a comprehensive 6-year/150,000km bumper-to-bumper warranty along with an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty across its entire vehicle lineup in Australia.

Retroactive Application for Existing Owners
In an unusual move that will delight existing Australian BYD EV owners, the enhanced warranty coverage will be back dated to apply to all vehicles delivered since the brand's Australian Atto 3 launch in August 2022.
The warranty extension to cover all vehicles such as the BYD Seal sold since BYD's Australian market entry in late 2022 demonstrates the company's commitment to customer satisfaction and confidence in their product reliability.
The new warranty terms represent a substantial improvement over BYD's previous policy, which was considered among the poorest in Australia's electric vehicle market, with many key components covered for only a few years.
Zecar applauds BYD for transitioning to this longer warranty period with simplified, all-inclusive coverage.
The warranty enhancement coincides with BYD's 30-year anniversary and follows the milestone of over 40,000 vehicle sales in Australia.
New Warranty Terms
Under the new terms, the power battery pack and drive unit are covered for 8 years or 160,000 kilometers, while all other components fall under the 6-year/150,000km warranty.
The previous warranty included a number of 'exceptions' to the vehicle warranty, these included:
- Drive unit (motor, motor controller, high voltage electric control assembly) – Eight-years/150,000km
- Lights; tyre pressure monitoring module; suspension; ball joint – Four-years/100,000km
- Infotainment system; shock absorber; belt; dust cover; bushing or gasket; release and wheel bearings; PM2.5 sensor; AC/DC charging port; USB charging ports – Three-years/60,000km
- 12-volt auxillary battery – 12-months/20,000km
- Air conditioner filters (filter net, high efficient strainer, electrostatic filter); button key battery; brake pads; clutch disc; tyres; wiper blade assembly; bulbs; fuses; ordinary relays – Six-months/10,000k

Continued Strong Safety Ratings
In related news strengthening BYD's market position, the company's recently launched electric SUV, the BYD SEALION 7, has achieved a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
This accomplishment maintains BYD's record of five-star safety ratings across its entire Australian lineup, following the previously assessed BYD SHARK 6.

EVDirect CEO David Smitherman commented on the announcement, stating
"BYD's advanced technology continues to attract attention from both consumers and the wider industry. The blade battery represents safety and performance, and we're thrilled to back the vehicles with an enhanced consumer warranty."
