BYD Australia has delivered its 150,000th vehicle, the company announced on 22 October 2026. The milestone car was a Seal 6 Touring plug-in hybrid wagon. BYD Warrnambool handed it to a customer named Tiffany on Victoria's south-west coast.
BYD entered the Australian market in late 2022. It now sits second behind Toyota in 2026 new-car sales, and says it will keep opening dealerships in regional areas for the rest of the year and into 2027.

A Warrnambool Family Buys Its Second BYD in Weeks
Tiffany lives in Portland, Victoria. She took delivery of the Seal 6 Touring a few weeks after her partner collected a Seal Performance Sedan. It is the family's second BYD purchase in quick succession.
Tiffany said the buying experience at BYD Warrnambool was pleasant and that her partner loves his Seal. When she saw the Seal 6 Touring in the showroom at delivery, she decided it was time for her first brand-new car. She said the styling appealed to her, and that practicality and low running costs made the choice easy for a family with young children.

Where BYD Ranks in Australian Sales in 2026
BYD is the second-largest brand in Australia by new-car sales so far in 2026, behind only Toyota. Ford is third on 61,104, down 13.2 per cent.

In September alone BYD sold 8,191 vehicles, up 61.1 per cent, and finished second for the month, according to VFACTS data reported by Drive. Its best month so far was June, when it sold 18,881 vehicles, just 243 fewer than Toyota.
The Sealion 7 is BYD's biggest-selling EV. It finished fifth among all models in September with 2,687 sales, and was the second-best-selling EV in the country that month behind the Tesla Model Y. Zecar's EV sales data has the monthly and model breakdowns. October sales figures are due in early November.
BYD's Regional Dealer Push
BYD plans to have more than 150 sales and service dealerships in operation by the end of 2026. GoAuto reported that BYD finished 2025 with nearly 100 authorised dealers, so the target implies a network more than 50 per cent larger.
Collins said the vast majority of recently opened BYD dealerships are outside metropolitan areas, serving wide communities. He said that emphasis will continue for the rest of 2026 and well into 2027. He also said he was pleased the 150,000th vehicle came from one of BYD's recently appointed regional and rural dealers.
BYD named these locations in the expansion: Noosaville, Mareeba and Marooka in Queensland; Mudgee in New South Wales; Seymour in Victoria; the Barossa in South Australia; and Rockingham in Western Australia. Zecar's guide to BYD's current Australian range covers every model on sale.
