BMW iX4 pricing in Australia
BMW will launch the iX4 with two variants. Both use dual electric motors, one on each axle, for all-wheel drive.
BMW has not offered a rear-wheel-drive iX4 40. The iX3 range includes one at $89,900, which sits under the luxury car tax threshold. The iX4 50 xDrive costs $7,400 more than the equivalent iX3 50 xDrive.

Get a novated lease quoteHow the iX4 compares with the X4 and iX3
The iX4 replaces the BMW X4. There will be no third-generation petrol X4.
The iX4 40 xDrive is priced between the outgoing X4 xDrive20 ($97,700) and X4 xDrive30 ($108,400). That puts the electric model in the same price bracket as the petrol car it replaces.
Against the iX3, the iX4's roofline is 40mm lower. It has a sloping tailgate and a small lip spoiler built into the bootlid. The more slippery shape lifts the 50 xDrive's WLTP range to 828km. The iX3 50 xDrive claims 805km.
The M Sport package is standard on the iX4 in every market. On the iX3, it is standard only in Australia.

BMW iX4 power, battery and range
Both variants use BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology. It combines an 800V electrical architecture, new cylindrical battery cells and new electric motors. BMW says Gen6 delivers around 30 per cent more range and 30 per cent faster charging than the previous generation.
The iX4 40 xDrive produces 275kW and 520Nm. It reaches 100km/h in a claimed 5.6 seconds. Its 82.6kWh (net) battery is rated for up to 638km of WLTP range.
The iX4 50 xDrive produces 345kW and 645Nm. It reaches 100km/h in a claimed 4.9 seconds. It uses a larger 108.7kWh (net) battery rated for up to 828km of WLTP range.

Max AC charging | 22kW (see note) | 22kW |

The entry iX4's 638km range claim is well ahead of the similarly priced Audi Q6 e-tron, which is rated at 493km.
WLTP figures come from laboratory testing. Real-world range will vary with speed, temperature and driving style. The optional 21-inch and 22-inch wheels also reduce range, though BMW has not published Australian figures for them.

BMW iX4 charging
The iX4 50 xDrive supports DC fast charging at up to 400kW. BMW says it can add up to 387km of WLTP range in 10 minutes under ideal conditions.
The iX4 40 xDrive supports DC charging at up to 300kW. BMW quotes a 10 to 80 per cent charge in 21 minutes for both variants at a suitable high-power charger.

Design, dimensions and boot space
The iX4 has a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a sloping roofline. A pronounced rear spoiler and slim horizontal light units sit at the back. BMW quotes a drag coefficient of 0.23.
At the front, the kidney grille and twin headlights merge into a single graphic element. This is a signature of BMW's Neue Klasse design.
The boot holds 490 litres with the rear seats up and 1,600 litres with them folded. There is another 58 litres of storage under the bonnet.

Interior and technology
The iX4 shares the iX3's cabin layout. It uses BMW Panoramic iDrive with BMW Operating System X. The setup includes a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, a 3D head-up display and a multifunction sports steering wheel with illuminated controls.
BMW Panoramic Vision projects key driving information across the lower edge of the windscreen. It stretches 43.3 inches across the dashboard. BMW lists the 3D head-up display as optional globally, but it is standard in Australia.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant supports natural-language voice commands and proactive suggestions.

Heart of Joy and driving dynamics
The iX4 uses BMW's Heart of Joy computer. It is one of four high-performance computers in the Neue Klasse electronics architecture. It controls the drive system, braking, energy recuperation and steering-related functions.
BMW says it works up to 10 times faster than previous systems. The company claims up to 98 per cent of everyday braking can be done through recuperation, without using the friction brakes.
The flat battery keeps the centre of gravity low. BMW says the iX4 also has near-perfect weight distribution and model-specific chassis tuning. BMW Symbiotic Drive handles driver assistance functions.

The iX4 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive share the same standard equipment list in Australia.

Sustainability and production
Based on preliminary forecasts, BMW says around 30 per cent of the iX4 is made from secondary materials.
The iX4 will be built at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary. BMW says the plant runs on electricity from renewable sources during normal production and does not use fossil fuels.
What is still to be confirmed
- Pricing and specifications for the iX4 M60 xDrive, due later in 2027.
- The standard AC charging rate and peak DC charging speed for the iX4 40 xDrive, as BMW's release lists conflicting figures.
- WLTP range figures for the iX4 on the optional 21-inch and 22-inch wheels.
