Key Points
- Tesla Australia is taking about 5% off new Model 3 and Model Y cars in its inventory, with discounts of $2750 to $3750.
- The discounts help clear existing stock that does not have the MY27 upgrades Tesla announced on 1 October 2026.
- The new $45,900 Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive base model is not discounted.
Tesla Australia has cut the price of new Model 3 and Model Y cars already in its inventory by about 5%. The discounts range from $2750 on the Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive to $3750 on the six-seat Model Y L Premium.
The cuts apply to existing stock that does not have the recent MY27 upgrades. Tesla opened orders for the updated Model 3 and Model Y on 1 October 2026. The changes include vehicle-to-load across the range, a 16-inch screen in every Model 3 and quicker acceleration for some Model Y variants. MY27 deliveries are due to start later this month.
How much Tesla is taking off
The discount appears as a "Reduced by" figure on each car listed on Tesla's Australian inventory site. It is a fixed amount for each variant. Each amount equals 5% of that variant's list price before on-road costs.
Tesla inventory discounts by variant
Variant | List price | Inventory discount | Price after discount |
Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive | $54,900 | $2750 | $52,150 |
Model 3 Premium Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive | $61,900 | $3100 | $58,800 |
Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive | $58,900 | $2950 | $55,950 |
Model Y L Premium All-Wheel Drive | $74,900 | $3750 | $71,150 |
Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive (new MY27 base) | $45,900 | None | $45,900 |
Prices above are before on-road costs. Many inventory cars carry paint, wheel or interior options, so individual listings are higher.
Tesla's inventory site also shows a price including on-road costs for the buyer's postcode. In Sydney, the cheapest discounted Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive was listed at $61,020 at the time of writing. The only Model Y L Premium in Sydney stock was listed at $79,710 with options.

Zecar checked Tesla's inventory for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane postcodes on 5 October 2026. The same discount amounts applied in each location.
- Model Y in Sydney: 21 cars, made up of 20 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive and one L Premium, all discounted.
- Model Y in Melbourne: 16 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive cars, all discounted by $2950.
- Model 3 in Sydney: 24 cars. Of these, 20 are Premium Rear-Wheel Drive and one is a Premium Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, all discounted. The other three are the new base Rear-Wheel Drive, with no discount.
- Model 3 in Brisbane: 29 cars, with the same split of discounted Premium cars and undiscounted base cars.
No Model Y Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive, Model Y Performance or Model 3 Performance cars appeared in these searches.
The new Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive, priced from $45,900, is not discounted. It is a new MY27 variant, so there is no older stock of it to clear.

What the MY27 update adds
The discounted cars are being sold as the MY27 Model 3 and Model Y arrive. Tesla has kept list prices for most variants the same, so a new MY27 car costs the same as an older car before any discount. The table below shows what changed for each model.
MY27 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y changes
Change | Model 3 | Model Y |
Power Share vehicle-to-load | Now on all variants | Now on all variants |
Centre touchscreen | 16-inch on every variant, up from 15.4-inch | No change (16-inch on inbound cars since January 2026) |
Dark headliner | Now on Premium and Performance | No change (on inbound cars since January 2026) |
Zen Grey interior | Option on Premium and Performance | Option on Performance |
New wheel option | 19-inch Dark Nova on Premium | None announced |
0-100km/h | No change announced for Premium | Premium Long Range 4.3 sec, L Premium 4.5 sec (both 0.5 sec quicker) |
WLTP range | Performance up from 571km to 600km | No change announced |
Pricing | New $45,900 base model, others unchanged | Performance down $4500 to $84,900, others unchanged |
For buyers of a discounted car, the key question is what they give up. On a Model 3 Premium, that is likely the 16-inch screen, the dark headliner option and Power Share support. On the Model Y L Premium, it is the quicker 4.5-second acceleration claim and Power Share. On the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive, the main change is Power Share.
Power Share needs a separate adaptor, which is sold on its own. Tesla has not said whether earlier cars will gain the feature.

Why Tesla is discounting now
Cars built before the update now sit alongside newer cars with more features at the same list price. A discount gives buyers a reason to take an older car now rather than wait for MY27 stock.
The discount also moves the Model Y closer to its main rivals on price. The Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive drops from $58,900 to $55,950 before on-road costs. CarsGuide listed the BYD Sealion 7, a key Model Y rival, from $54,990 before on-road costs in July 2026.
Discounted cars are still covered by Tesla's five-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty for private buyers. That warranty applies to new Model 3 and Model Y cars delivered from 1 January 2026.

What is not confirmed
- Tesla has not announced the discount publicly or given an end date. It appears only on inventory listings.
- Some discounted listings show a 2027 year. Tesla has not published which inventory cars include MY27 features, so check each listing or ask Tesla before you buy.
How to find the discounted cars
The cars are listed on Tesla's Australian inventory pages for the Model 3 and Model Y. Each listing shows the "Reduced by" amount, the year, the WLTP range and a price including on-road costs for your postcode.
Inventory cars are already built, so they can usually be delivered sooner than a factory order. For buyers using a novated lease, a lower purchase price also lowers the amount being financed.
