If you were heading north this Easter, there’s a good chance you spotted something big just off the Pacific Highway. Tesla has officially fired up a brand-new Supercharger site at Moonee Beach, NSW. This new 15-stall site now ranks as the second largest EV fast charging location in the country.
Strategically located just north of Coffs Harbour, the new site is built holiday road trip traffic, especially for those making the Sydney-to-Queensland run. It also shows Tesla’s commitment to building real EV infrastructure that works for all Australians, not just Tesla drivers.

V4 Power, Drive-Thru Bays, and Open Access
What sets the Moonee Beachsite apart? First off, it features Tesla’s latest V4 Superchargers, each pumping out a rapid 250 kW. That’s top tier charging speed that’ll juice up most EVs fast enough to grab a coffee and be back on the road before the kids finish their ice cream.
These chargers are open to non-Tesla EVs, too. Thanks to co-funding under the NSW Government’s EV Strategy, the entire site is accessible to any CCS2-compatible vehicle, making it a major win for all EV owners in the region.
One standout feature for adventurers: dedicated drive-thru charging bays. If you’re towing a trailer, boat, or camper, you won’t need to unhitch anything to plug in. It’s a small touch that makes a huge difference for regional travellers and caravanners.

Moonee Beach vs. Coffs Harbour: A Massive Upgrade
Up until now, EV drivers in the area mostly relied on the six-stall V2 Supercharger site in Coffs Harbour, which are limited to 150 kW. There’s also been a temporary 2-stall setup near the Big Banana, but neither compares to the size or speed of this new Moonee Beach station.
With 15 high-speed stalls, Tesla has effectively supercharged the mid-north coast corridor—positioning Moonee Beach as a critical stop on Australia’s eastern EV highway.

Expansion Continues, But Not for Long at #2
As impressive as Moonee Beach is, its reign as Australia’s second-largest site will be short-lived. Tesla’s 20-stall supercharging hub in Goulburn is nearly complete and set to become the new national frontrunner. Construction is wrapping up, and commissioning is right around the corner.
For now, the top spot still belongs to Albury, home to 16 V4 Superchargers commissioned back in December 2023.

A Government-Backed Push to Net Zero
The expansion at Moonee Beach is part of a broader government-backed push to fast-track EV adoption across New South Wales.
David Malicki, Team Lead of Net Zero Transport at the NSW Office of Energy and Climate Change, chimed in on LinkedIn to congratulate Tesla, calling it another major milestone in the NSW EV Strategy.
Public investment in EV infrastructure is helping Tesla (and other operators) roll out these future-proof, open-access sites faster than ever before.

Queensland Gets a Boost Too
It’s not just NSW seeing action. Earlier this month, Tesla quietly opened a 6-stall V3 Supercharger in Townsville, also available to all EVs. It might not be a mega-site like Moonee Beach, but it’s another welcome step forward in plugging EV coverage gaps across the country.
