This is a comprehensive comparison of the specs and features of two of Australia's fastest electric cars, under $100,000, the MG4 XPOWER and Volvo EX30 Performance electric hatchbacks. This comparison focuses on the most comparable variants of each model:

Price and Incentives

As of today, The Volvo EX30 Performance costs $10,000 more than the MG4 XPOWER. Both will be eligible for state government incentives and the FBT exemption for electric vehicles.

They are similar priced to similar sized petrol hot hatches such as the

Volkswagen Golf R ($65,990 before ORC) and Hyuindai i30 N ($56,480 before ORC).

Size and Dimensions

Both EVs are considered to be practical for their class. They are both built on a dedicated EV platform which allows for greater interior space relative to the external footprint. Size wise, they have a simialr external dimensions to other popular hatchbacks including the Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3 and Hyundai i30.N

The MG4 XPOWER and Volvo EX30 are similar in size. The MG4 XPOWER is longer (+54 mm), however, the EX30 is wider (+33 mm).

Range and Performance

On paper, the Volvo EX30 offers more claimed WLTP range (+75 km) and is also more efficient than the MG4, despite being 65 kg heavier.

The Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance also offers faster acceleration than the MG4 XPOWER, hitting 0 to 100 km/hr in 3.6 seconds.

Battery and Charging

The MG4 offers a slightly faster DC charging than the Volvo EX30. Both models feature a three-phase onboard charger which is capable of AC charging rates of 11 kW.

Only the MG4 offers V2L which allows you to use the car's battery as a mobile power bank. V2L could be useful for camping, road-trips and potentially in the event of a blackout.

Driver Technology

The MG4 XPOWER and Volvo EX30 offer similar levels of driver-assist technology features. The Volvo EX30 however offers a larger screen, higher resolution camera system and auto park assistance.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Volvo EX30 is considered to have a superior infotainment and connectivity offering, highlighted by its larger 12.3-inch centre screen, snappy user-friendly interface (powered by Android Automotive) and high quality sound system.

Both vehicles offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Both models feature mobile apps which allow functionalities such as remote lock, pre-heating/cooling and charge monitoring.

Other Features

Both vehicles offer similar additional features such as a heat pump which comes as standard.

Warranty and Servicing

The MG4 XPOWER offers a longer vehicle warranty based on number of years, while the Volvo EX30 has longer battery warranty duration.
