MG Australia has announced that customers can now purchase the all-electric ZS EV SUV with big discounts.
This would appear to be clearing the decks for the new MG S5 EV to be launched here very soon. More details about that model are below.

Curiously both the shorter range ZS EV Essence (320km WLTP) and Long Range (440km WLTP) versions are both now available from $36,888 drive away.
This temporary pricing move means the MG ZS EV holds position of Australia's most affordable electric SUV in a rapidly evolving market.
The price reduction comes as these models enter their run-out phase, with MG notably mentioning that the Excite variant has already sold out completely.
Both available ZS EV models come equipped with a 10.1" touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, adequate but not high resolution 360-degree camera system, heated front seats for added comfort, rain-sensing wipers and a wireless phone charger.
An important consideration for buyers is that these 2023 stock vehicles come with MG Australia's previous warranty package of 7 years with unlimited km.
This differs from the newer 10-year limited kilometer warranty that applies to more recent MG models, but still represents a competitive warranty offering in the automotive market.
The MG ZS EV has a relatively established history in the electric vehicle marketplace. It was initially launched in the United Kingdom in late 2019 before arriving in Australia in 2020.
A refreshed second version was subsequently introduced to the Australian market in late 2022, updating the original design while maintaining its core value proposition.
When comparing the MG ZS EV with competitor the BYD Atto 3 Premium, that is currently priced at almost $11,000 more at $47,584 drive away (NSW), offering a range of 420km and much more modern infotainment than the ZS EV.
While other newer EVs models in the market offer additional features, and more modern designs, the MG ZS EV delivers core electric vehicle functionality at a lower price point, making electric mobility more accessible to a broader range of Australian consumers.
This price reduction appears to be MG's strategy to clear existing stock while maintaining its market position as the value leader in the electric SUV segment.
New MG S5 EV Rumoured For Q2 Launch
The 2025 MG S5 EV received approval for sale in Australia in late 2024.
This model will serve as the successor to the MG ZS EV, introducing a new naming convention along with technological advancements and enhanced electric capabilities.

While known as the ES5 in MG's domestic market, Australian government approval documents confirm the model will be marketed locally as the MG S5 EV.
Unlike the ZS EV, which shares its foundation with the petrol powered ZS, the S5 EV is constructed on a purpose-built electric vehicle platform. This platform is also utilized by the MG 4 and the Cyberster models.
The transition to a dedicated EV architecture facilitates improvements in design, driving dynamics, and battery efficiency, potentially offering consumers an enhanced electric driving experience.
The MG S5 EV will probably offer two battery configurations according to Australian approval documentation.
These are likely to be a base version with 49kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery (350km WLTP) and a higher spec version with either 62kWh or 64kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery and about 450km WLTP range.
Differentiating from many other mid and small size EV SUV which are front wheel drive, the MG S5 EV is expected to be powered by a rear motor.
The MG S5 EV measures 4476mm in length, 1849mm in width, and stands 1621mm tall with a wheelbase of 2730mm.
These dimensions make it slightly larger than both the BYD Atto 3 and its predecessor, the ZS EV, potentially translating to increased interior space for passengers and cargo.
Pricing at launch and whether the software (especially safety systems) have been tuned for Australian buyer expectations will determine if the MG S5 EV succeeds in selling as well as it's predecessor.
