2023 MG ZS EV price and specs

Key Points

  • Affordable MG electric car priced from $43,990
  • Up to 320km range from new larger LFP battery
  • Two spec variants, both eligible for EV incentives

The MG ZS EV affordable electric SUV has received a major update, with an all-new upsized battery, fresh looks and new tech.

MG has now removed the national drive-away promotional pricing for the ZS EV, but remains Australia’s cheapest electric car.

Now starting from $43,990 to $47,990 before on-road costs, the MG ZS EV provides up to 320km of claimed WLTP driving range with a larger lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, 360-degree camera and mobile app connectivity.

It launched a major refresh last year with a previous drive-away offer of $44,990 to $48,990 amid new competition from the affordable BYD Atto 3.

Now, MG is no longer absorbing the extra on-road costs – meaning the true final purchase price will be subject to varying registration, stamp duty and 12-month compulsory third-party insurance fees by each state – and dealer delivery charges set by the franchise showroom.

The MG electric car is still eligible for most Australian electric car incentives, including the fringe benefits tax (FBT) exemption for fleets and novated leases.

All models are capable of charging at up to 11kW AC and 80kW DC speeds, with exterior vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability via the front charging port. But, a separate V2L adapter accessory purchase is required from the dealer.

The facelifted small electric SUV also introduces towing capability for the first time, rated at up to 500kg on a braked and unbraked trailer.

The ZS EV directly competes with the BYD Atto 3 – which is still marginally more expensive like-for-like when comparing the Atto 3 Standard Range and ZS EV Essence – plus the Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Kona Electric, and pricier Tesla Model Y.

MG ZS EV Warranty and Servicing

The MG ZS EV is covered by a seven-year, unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty, battery warranty, roadside assistance, and capped price servicing scheme.

For commercial buyers, the warranty is limited to seven-years/160,000km (whichever comes first).

The Chinese automaker emphasises there are no hidden warranty exclusions, unlike the BYD Atto 3, though the ZS EV’s 12-volt auxiliary battery is backed by a two-year, unlimited kilometre warranty.

The MG electric car only needs servicing every 24 months/20,000km. It can be serviced at more than 80 MG dealer locations across Australia.
