Hyundai has taken the wraps off its latest all-electric SUV, the ELEXIO, a new nameplate built under the company’s Chinese joint venture, Beijing Hyundai. The mid-size SUV debuts as a core part of Hyundai’s next-generation electrification strategy for China, and is set to arrive in Australian showrooms in early 2026.

Built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform which is the same foundation used by the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. The ELEXIO blends Hyundai’s global EV expertise with technology developed specifically for the Chinese market.

A New Chapter in Hyundai’s China Strategy

The launch of ELEXIO marks the first model developed under Hyundai’s “In China, For China, To Global” initiative. It’s designed to strengthen the brand’s foothold in the world’s largest EV market while setting a blueprint for future global models.

Ickkyun Oh, Head of Hyundai’s China Business Division, said the ELEXIO “symbolises our commitment to intelligent mobility and to aligning with local innovation in China’s fast-moving EV sector.

The ELEXIO’s exterior combines simplicity and sophistication, with clean surfaces, crystal-style LED headlights, and a rigid, high-strength body structure designed to balance comfort and safety.

Battery, Range and Performance

Powering the ELEXIO is an 88.1 kWh battery pack, offering an impressive 722 km range (CLTC), equivalent to over 500 km on WLTP standards.

The SUV supports DC fast charging, replenishing 30% to 80%in around 27 minutes, and is compatible with nearly all major charging operators in China.

Chassis and suspension systems have been tuned for both urban and highway driving, with Family Brake Mode and active seat bolsters to improve comfort on long journeys.

Underneath the technology and range figures, Hyundai’s use of the E-GMP platform provides the flexibility for future variants and global production.
