Fresh images of BYD’s upcoming Denza Z electric sports car have surfaced online, giving the clearest look yet at what appears to be the production version of the brand’s sleek two-door EV.
The latest sighting suggests BYD is moving closer to an official reveal, roughly a year after first unveiling the Denza Z concept at the Shanghai motor show in April 2025.
With prototypes already tested on public roads and at Germany’s Nürburgring, the Denza Z is shaping up as one of the most intriguing performance EV launches to come from China.

Undisguised convertible version reveals final design direction
The new image, shared online by automotive account Thinkercar, shows a green Denza Z being unloaded from a transport truck.
Unlike the original concept coupe, this version appears to be a soft-top convertible, hinting that BYD may offer multiple body styles.
Visible production details include:
- Large alloy wheels
- Yellow brake callipers
- Low, wide sports-car stance
- Sculpted front bumper
- Cleaner rear styling
Notably, this example does not wear the large carbon-fibre rear wing seen on earlier prototypes, suggesting that feature may be reserved for higher-performance variants or remain concept-only.
Earlier teaser images also showed a more aggressive front spoiler, likely designed to improve high-speed aerodynamics.
The latest sighting usually points to a car entering final validation stages before full launch.

Nürburgring testing and new tech hint at serious intent
BYD appears determined to ensure the Denza Z is more than just a styling statement.
During late 2025, camouflaged prototypes were filmed lapping Germany’s 20.8km
, one of the world’s toughest proving grounds for sports cars. The original Denza Z concept also previewed several advanced technologies:
- DiSus-M adaptive suspension system
- Steer-by-wire controls
- Foldable steering wheel
- Advanced chassis software
BYD already has growing credibility in the performance EV space.
Its flagship Yangwang U9 Xtreme reportedly achieved 496.22km/h at Germany’s ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg facility, giving the company a headline-grabbing benchmark in the supercar world.
The Denza Z is expected to bring some of that performance ambition into a more accessible premium sports-car segment.
With undisguised vehicles now appearing in public, full specifications and pricing could be revealed in the coming months.
What this means for the Australian EV market
Even if the Denza Z is not immediately confirmed for Australia, it still matters locally.
Australian EV buyers have largely seen BYD as a value-focused brand built around practical SUVs and family transport. A stylish two-door sports car changes that narrative.
Halo cars often reshape public perception. Hyundai had N models, Kia had the Stinger, and Tesla had the original Roadster. BYD could use the Denza Z in a similar way to add emotion, aspiration and performance credibility.
If Denza eventually launches in Australia, it would also bring welcome variety to a market heavily dominated by SUVs and utes. The Denza Z could be a smart strategic move, even in limited numbers.
