BYD Sealion 8 free on-road costs deal

Key Points

  • BYD is offering free on-road costs on the Sealion 7 Premium, Sealion 8 Dynamic FWD and Shark 6 Premium from 1 August to 30 September 2026.
  • The Sealion 8 Dynamic AWD, Sealion 8 Premium AWD, Shark 6 Dynamic Cab Chassis and Atto 2 Premium qualify for cashback or Your Way credit of $2,000 to $3,000 instead.
  • Orders must be placed by 30 September 2026 and delivered by 31 October 2026 to qualify, and the offer covers BYD's four best-selling nameplates in Australia.

BYD has launched a new round of driveaway pricing and cashback offers across its Australian range, covering the Sealion 8, Sealion 7, Shark 6 and Atto 2.

Three variants get free on-road costs, effectively a driveaway price cut, while four others qualify for cashback or flexible credit worth $2,000 to $3,000. The offer runs for orders placed between 1 August and 30 September 2026, with delivery required by 31 October 2026.

Which Models Get Free On-Road Costs

Three models qualify for BYD's driveaway pricing offer, meaning the advertised price is what buyers pay with no additional on-road costs added. Metallic paint remains an extra cost on all three.

Sealion 8 Dynamic FWD

$56,990

Sealion 7 Premium

Shark 6 Premium

The Sealion 8 Dynamic FWD is the entry point to BYD's seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV, undercutting the Toyota Kluger hybrid by around $7,000 before on-road costs. The Sealion 7 Premium remains BYD's top-selling model, and the Shark 6 Premium is the volume seller in BYD's plug-in hybrid ute range.

Cashback and Your Way Offers on the Rest of the Range

Four other variants qualify for cashback or flexible credit instead of a driveaway price cut. The Sealion 8 Dynamic AWD and Premium AWD both get a straight $2,000 cashback. The Shark 6 Dynamic Cab Chassis and Atto 2 Premium qualify for "Your Way" credit, which buyers can put toward cashback, accessories, car care products, merchandise or charging solutions, with the exact options varying by dealer.

Order Window and Delivery Deadline

Buyers need to order between 1 August and 30 September 2026 and take delivery by 31 October 2026 to qualify for any of the offers. For the driveaway pricing offer, BYD says it will still honour the promotional price on delivery if an order placed within the campaign period is delayed beyond 31 October 2026 for reasons outside the customer's control. For the Sealion 8 cashback offer, BYD says it will review delayed orders individually and may extend the delivery window.

Demonstrator vehicles are excluded from every offer in this campaign, and none of the offers can be combined with other promotions or discounts. Fleet, government and rental purchases are also excluded from the Your Way offers on the Shark 6 Dynamic Cab Chassis and Atto 2 Premium, and fleet and service loan vehicles are excluded from the Sealion 8 cashback.

How Each Model Has Sold in 2026

The offer covers four of BYD's highest-volume nameplates. Data below is drawn from VFACTS, the Electric Vehicle Council and The Driven's monthly sales tracker. The Sealion 7 and Atto 2 figures are fully electric (BEV) sales only, current to the end of July 2026. The Shark 6 is a plug-in hybrid so is tracked separately by VFACTS, with the most recent confirmed year-to-date figure to the end of June 2026. The Sealion 8 is a plug-in hybrid seven-seat SUV that only launched in mid-January 2026, so it does not yet have a full year-to-date figure published, but its most recent monthly result is included below.

BYD Model Sales Performance, 2026

Model

2026 Sales

Note

Sealion 7

15,064 YTD (to July)

BYD's best-selling model outright, and the second best-selling EV in Australia behind the Tesla Model Y

Atto 2

6,615 YTD (to July)

Cracked the national top 10 for the first time in June with 2,482 sales

Shark 6

9,493 YTD (to June)

Down 8.9 percent on the same period in 2025, as newer PHEV utes from rival brands enter the market

Sealion 8

1,961 in June alone

Launched 16 January 2026; its strongest month to date, but too new for a confirmed year-to-date total

The Sealion 7 has been BYD's standout performer all year, regularly outselling every other EV in the country except the Tesla Model Y. The Atto 2's June result made it BYD's third model to break into the monthly top 10, alongside the Sealion 7 and Shark 6. The Shark 6 is the one model in this offer that is down year-on-year, a trend BYD is trying to counter by expanding the range with cheaper Dynamic Cab Chassis and more powerful Performance variants.
