Key Points

  • bp pulse has opened a 24-bay EV charging hub at Melbourne Airport, which bp says is the largest in Australia, ahead of Tesla's 20-stall Goulburn Supercharger site.
  • The site has 150kW and 300kW chargers, truck-friendly drive-through bays, a dedicated Uber bay and a canopy over about half the bays.
  • Tesla has lodged plans for a 37-bay Supercharger site in Albury, which would take the title if approved and built.

bp pulse has officially opened a 24-bay fast charging hub at Melbourne Airport. The company, which is BP's public charging network in Australia, says it is the largest EV charging hub in the country. bp pulse announced the opening in mid-October 2026, after a soft launch in September.

It is also bp pulse's first large-scale hub in Australia. bp defines that as any site with more than eight bays. The previous largest site was Tesla's Goulburn Supercharger in New South Wales, with 20 V4 stalls. That title may not last long, with Tesla having lodged plans for a 37-bay Supercharger site in Albury.

What Is at the Melbourne Airport Hub

The hub has 24 charging bays using 150kW and 300kW chargers. bp pulse has not said how many of each there are. Two bays are accessible, and there are drive-through bays for larger vehicles, including trucks. A dedicated Uber charging bay is also on site.

A canopy covers around 12 of the 24 bays, and all bays are lit. Drivers also get a bathroom, free Wi-Fi and picnic seating, plus access to nearby amenities.

Where the Hub Is and Who It Serves

The hub sits on Airport Drive, at the corner of Francis Briggs Road, near Melbourne Airport's long-term Value car park. It is between a DHL depot and the Melrose Lounge, and close to the airport's Wait Zone and Ring & Ride area.

bp Australia said in a March press release that the precinct sees around 34,000 vehicles a day. The hub has bays set aside for trucks and for Uber drivers in that mix.

Uber Discount and Solar Power

Uber drivers in EVs can use bp pulse's existing Uber discount at the site which is reportedly 5 to 8 cents off every kWh from the regular price.

When construction began in March, Melbourne Airport said the hub would run on 100% renewable electricity from the airport's two onsite solar farms. Jai McDermott, the airport's Chief of Ground Transport, Property and Retail, made that statement at the time. Neither opening report repeats it, so it is not confirmed whether the arrangement is in place now.

Why the Title May Not Last

According to the ABC, Tesla has submitted plans to Albury council for a 37-bay Supercharger site. The $3.5 million project is proposed for a vacant 1,300 square metre lot in the suburb of Thurgoona, about 2.5km from the Hume Highway.

The site is close to supermarkets and a gym, and is designed for long-distance travellers. No approval has been reported, so the 37-bay figure is a proposal only.

Zecar's guide to Tesla Supercharger cost covers what charging on that network costs in Australia.

bp pulse launched in Australia in 2022. It has installed more than 290 charging bays across the country since.

The hub opens during a busy period for Australian charging. Tesla passed 1,000 Supercharger stalls in Australia in June, at Byron Bay. Earlier this month, Ampol agreed to buy Evie Networks for $225 million.
