Key Points
- Jaguar Type 01 packs 757kW and 1365Nm of torque.
- The electric GT is coming to Australia from $300,000.
- Up to 720km WLTP range and 350kW charging.
Jaguar has revealed the first production model of its new electric era, with the dramatic Type 01 set to arrive in Australia from around $300,000 before on road costs.
The four door electric GT is the first Jaguar built under the brand's major design and product reset, and carries much of the controversial styling first previewed by the Type 00 concept. Australian orders are expected to open in 2027, with the Type 01 positioned against high end electric and luxury models from Porsche, BMW and Bentley.

Jaguar's New Electric Flagship
The Type 01 marks a major change in direction for Jaguar. Rather than competing with mainstream luxury brands such as BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi, the new electric GT moves the brand into a much more expensive part of the market.
At around $300,000 before on road costs, the Type 01 sits in similar territory to the Porsche Taycan Turbo and Porsche Panamera 4S, while also approaching the price of a BMW i7. It remains considerably cheaper than the Bentley Flying Spur, which starts at around $495,000.
Jaguar's new electric strategy will extend beyond the Type 01, with an SUV planned to compete with the Porsche Macan and Lotus Eletre, followed by a luxury two door coupe.
The Type 01 also carries over much of the bold styling that made the Type 00 concept controversial.
Key design elements include:
- Long bonnet and low roofline
- Frameless doors and clean bodywork
- New four light front design
- 84mm tall LED headlights
- Hidden rear lights that illuminate when activated
At 5235mm long and 1403mm tall, the Type 01 is longer and lower than both the Porsche Panamera and the previous Jaguar XJ.
757kW of Electric Power
Underneath the dramatic bodywork is Jaguar's new JEA electric architecture, paired with an 850 volt electrical system and a large 118kWh battery. The Type 01 uses three electric motors, with a 260kW unit at the front and two 310kW motors at the rear.
Together, they produce 757kW and 1365Nm, making the Type 01 the most powerful road going Jaguar ever produced. Jaguar claims a 0 to 100km/h time of just 3.2 seconds.

Key performance figures include:
- Three motors: 260kW front and two 310kW rear
- Peak output: 757kW and 1365Nm
- 0 to 100km/h: 3.2 seconds
- Battery: 118kWh
- Range: Up to 720km WLTP or 643km EPA
The rear motors can also be deactivated when their extra performance is not needed. Jaguar says this can improve efficiency and add up to 30km of driving range.
Charging is another major focus. With a suitable 350kW DC charger, the Type 01 can go from 10 to 80 per cent in around 22 minutes, while Jaguar claims up to 321km of range can be added in 13 minutes.
The charging system also supports up to 250kW on a 400 volt connection, while the onboard AC charger can handle up to 22kW.

A Cabin Built For Four
Inside, Jaguar has taken an equally unconventional approach. A central spine runs through the cabin, separating the four seats into individual spaces. The front seats offer 12 way adjustment, heating, cooling and massage, while the rear seats also get heating and cooling.
Displays and connectivity
- 24 inch OLED display behind the steering wheel
- Smaller 7 inch portrait screen lower down for frequently used controls
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard
- Over the air software updates and a built in 5G Wi Fi hotspot

Comfort and sound
- Panoramic glass roof
- Full width Panoramic Soundbar at the base of the windscreen
- Meridian speakers integrated into the front headrests
There is no conventional rear windscreen. Instead, a rear facing camera feeds a digital rear view display positioned at the same height as the exterior mirrors. Jaguar says the boot offers more than 450 litres of storage, expanding to 1000 litres with the rear seats folded.
Colour options
- Gloss: Visionary Silver, Dramatic White, Iconic Black, Compelling Blue and Refined Grey
- Satin: Modernist Blue and Mesmerising Copper
For buyers wanting something even more exclusive, Jaguar will offer its Chromatic Moments collection, limited to 60 examples globally.
Built For High Speed
Jaguar has put significant aerodynamic development into the Type 01, conducting more than 7000 wind tunnel tests. The car uses active front vents and a three stage rear spoiler to manage airflow. Despite its size, it has a claimed drag coefficient of 0.23, making it Jaguar's most aerodynamic production car.
How the rear spoiler works
- Above 80km/h: deploys to seven degrees to reduce drag, adding up to 5km of range
- Above 155km/h: moves to a more aggressive 21 degrees, generating up to 75kg of downforce
- Suspension drops by 15mm when the spoiler is extended at cruising speeds
Driver assistance and safety
- Adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist
- Lane keep assist
- 360 degree camera
- Ten external cameras, five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors monitoring the surroundings
Jaguar has also developed a conversational voice assistant that understands multi step instructions, so drivers can control functions without taking their hands from the wheel.
For Australian buyers, the company says a state of the art home charging solution will be available when the Type 01 arrives, with further details on local charging support expected closer to launch.
At around $300,000, the Type 01 will be a very different proposition from the Jaguar models Australians have known in the past. Rather than competing directly with mainstream luxury EVs, Jaguar is using its first electric model of the new era to move further upmarket and establish itself as a more exclusive electric performance brand.
