Mitsubishi Motors Australia has released detailed specifications for the ASX VR-e, its new battery electric SUV. The ASX VR-e arrives in showrooms in late 2026 in four grades: LS, Aspire, Exceed and GSR.
It will be the second fully electric model Mitsubishi has launched in Australia, following the i-MiEV in 2011. Mitsubishi has not yet confirmed pricing or an official driving range.
A Different Car to the Petrol ASX
The ASX VR-e shares a name with Mitsubishi's petrol ASX, but little else. The petrol ASX is a lightly restyled Renault Captur. The ASX VR-e does not share any powertrain components with it.
Instead, the ASX VR-e is based on the Foxtron Bria. Foxtron Vehicle Technologies is the EV business of Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn. The Bria is built in Taiwan by Yulon Motor. Mitsubishi announced its supply deal with Foxtron in May 2025, covering Australia and New Zealand.
The design comes from Italian styling house Pininfarina. The VR-e name refers to the Galant VR-4, an all-wheel-drive Mitsubishi performance sedan sold in Australia from 1990.

Where It Sits in Mitsubishi's Electrified Range
The ASX VR-e joins the Outlander PHEV and Eclipse Cross PHEV in Mitsubishi's current electrified lineup in Australia. It is the brand's only battery electric model on sale. The i-MiEV, its last EV, was discontinued locally in 2015.
Mitsubishi Motors Australia CEO Shunichi Kihara said the ASX VR-e is part of the company's commitment to offer a range of powertrains for Australian buyers. He described it as Mitsubishi's return to the battery electric segment, more than 15 years after the i-MiEV.

Battery, Motors and Performance
Every ASX VR-e uses a 57.7kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The LS, Aspire and Exceed have a single rear-mounted motor producing 171kW and 350Nm. Mitsubishi claims 0 to 100km/h in 6.8 seconds.
The GSR adds a second motor on the front axle for all-wheel drive. That doubles outputs to 342kW and 700Nm. Mitsubishi claims 0 to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds, and says the GSR is the fastest-accelerating Mitsubishi it has officially sold in Australia.

All grades have Eco, Comfort and Sport drive modes. Each mode changes power delivery and throttle response. In Sport mode, the GSR shifts its front-to-rear power split from 50:50 to 30:70, except at wide-open throttle.
Steering weight can be set to light, standard or heavy. Regenerative braking has five levels, including a full one-pedal mode.
Charging and Range
All grades support CCS2 DC fast charging at up to 134kW. AC charging through the Type 2 port peaks at 6.6kW. Mitsubishi has not published charging times.
The charge port sits behind a sliding cover rather than a hinged flap. Mitsubishi says this reduces the chance of breakage. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) is standard and runs through the external Type 2 charging port.

Mitsubishi has not released a range figure for the ASX VR-e. In Taiwan, Foxtron quotes 516km for the rear-drive Bria and 466km for the dual-motor version. Those figures use the NEDC test cycle, which typically returns higher numbers than the WLTP cycle used for most Australian range claims. Mitsubishi has not confirmed whether the Bria figures carry over to the ASX VR-e.
Pininfarina Design and Aerodynamics
Pininfarina's design is also intended to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The front end has an S-Duct, which takes air in through an opening in the lower bumper. The air travels up through the duct and exits across the top of the nose.
Air curtains shape airflow around the body. Active grille shutters open and close to match cooling needs. Flush door handles and aero-styled alloy wheels further reduce drag.

Dimensions
The ASX VR-e is 4,315mm long on a 2,800mm wheelbase. Mitsubishi has not published boot capacity.
Mitsubishi ASX VR-e Dimensions
Measure | Value |
Length | 4,315mm |
Width | 1,885mm |
Height | 1,535mm |
Wheelbase | 2,800mm |
Cabin and Technology
Every grade gets a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a 9.2-inch digital driver display. The touchscreen controls key vehicle functions and shows animations for vehicle status and airflow direction. Owners can move widgets around the screen to set up their own layout.
Physical switches remain for climate control, hazard lights and the front and rear demisters. A customisable favourites switch can be set to a preferred function. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
The climate control responds to natural language commands. Saying "I am hot", for example, lowers the temperature. Aspire and above get 64-colour ambient lighting.
Mitsubishi calls the ASX VR-e a software-defined vehicle. It receives over-the-air updates, and Connected Car Services will be available from launch.

Safety Technology
The active safety suite is standard across the range, except where noted. It includes:
- Adaptive cruise control with lane following control
- One-touch setting to match the speed limit shown by traffic sign recognition
- Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
- Forward collision warning
- Lane keeping assist and lane departure warning
- Blind spot detection
- Rear cross traffic alert
- Leading vehicle departure alert
- Traffic jam assist
- Traffic sign recognition
- Driver monitoring system
- Tyre pressure monitoring with tyre temperature readout
- Adaptive driving beam headlights (Aspire and above)
Aspire and above also get a 360-degree surround view monitor and straight-line remote parking assist. Mitsubishi has not announced an ANCAP safety rating.
Grades and Standard Features
The range opens with the LS and builds up through the Aspire, Exceed and GSR. Each grade adds to the one below it.

Warranty and Servicing
The ASX VR-e battery is warranted for eight years or 160,000km against material and factory workmanship defects. Mitsubishi's Drive Battery Capacity Care Program also guarantees the battery will retain at least 70 per cent of its usable capacity over that period.
The car is covered by Mitsubishi's 10/10/10 Diamond Advantage program. It includes a 10-year or 200,000km new vehicle warranty, whichever comes first. To get the full term, owners must complete all scheduled services on time at a Mitsubishi dealership. Otherwise, the standard warranty is five years or 100,000km.
Capped price servicing covers the first 10 scheduled services, up to 10 years or 150,000km. Service intervals are 12 months or 15,000km. Mitsubishi has not yet published capped service prices for the ASX VR-e.
Roadside assistance starts at 12 months. It extends by 12 months after each eligible capped price service, up to 10 years in total. Some government, rental and national business customers are excluded from the program.
How It Compares With Rival Small Electric SUVs
Without pricing, a value comparison is not yet possible. On paper, the rear-drive ASX VR-e has more power, faster peak DC charging and a longer wheelbase than the BYD Atto 2, GWM Ora 5 and Jaecoo J5 EV. It is similar in length to the Atto 2 and shorter than the Ora 5 and J5 EV.

Competitor prices and specifications are correct at the time of writing and may change. GWM quotes the Ora 5's range on the WLTC cycle, which typically returns higher figures than WLTP. Compare more models in the Zecar EV Database.
When Does It Arrive?
Mitsubishi says the ASX VR-e will reach showrooms in late 2026. Pricing and official range figures are expected closer to launch. Zecar will update this article when they are confirmed.
