SAIC has unveiled the 2026 MG4 Urban in China. The updated model is set to debut at the Beijing Auto Show. It brings an updated interior, more technology and updated powertrain options.
The MG4 Urban is the entry-level version of the MG4 range. In Australia, the MG4 EV Urban only launched in March 2026. This China update is a separate, newer version built for the Chinese market.
What Is New on the Outside
The front end gets new sleek headlights, a segmented front lip and a black lower bumper. A small blue indicator light shows the status of the driver assistance system at a glance.
The side profile keeps the floating roof design. New 17-inch wheel rims are fitted. At the rear, through-type taillights carry over from the previous model, joined by a subtle spoiler and a matching rear bumper.

Interior and Technology
Inside, the 2026 MG4 Urban gets new colour options including Yacht Blue and Midnight Purple. Music-synced ambient lighting and hidden air vents are also new. The cabin features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen.
The Doubao 3.0 AI model is integrated into the infotainment system. It lets drivers complete information queries and control vehicle functions through natural conversation. The system supports four-zone independent voice recognition, so it can respond to commands from different seats at the same time. It can control the sunroof, air conditioning and entertainment automatically. Oppo smartphone connectivity enables seamless app integration.
Comfort features include front seats with 8-point massage, ventilation and heating. The front passenger seat has a 4-way electric leg rest. The rear seat cushion measures 571mm in length.

Driver Assistance
The 2026 MG4 Urban uses a Horizon Robotics L2+ intelligent driving system. It supports highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA), including automatic overtaking, lane keeping and turn-signal lane changes.
New parking features include automatic front-entry parking, a DIY parking mode, parking speed adjustment, dead-end road parking, low-speed parking spot detection and smartphone parking visualisation.
Powertrain and Charging
The 2026 MG4 Urban is available in two versions: a standard electric version and a liquid-solid-state battery version. The standard electric version has a 120kW (161hp) motor with 250Nm of torque. Battery options are 42.8kWh and 53.9kWh, with CLTC range of 437km and 530km respectively. The liquid-solid-state battery version starts at 510km CLTC range.
Fast charging uses 3C technology. It takes 18 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%. The car also features DP-EPS dual-pinion electric power steering for quicker steering response.

What About Australia?
The MG4 EV Urban only launched in Australia in March 2026. It is the most affordable MG EV on sale here.
This 2026 update is for the Chinese market. It has not been confirmed for Australia. Based on how MG typically rolls out updates, it could be at least 12 months before this version arrives locally, if it does at all.
Australian buyers who want the MG4 Urban now are getting the current version. It is a solid entry-level EV at a competitive price. The China update adds more technology, but there is no timeline for it to reach Australia.
