GWM is preparing to expand its Ora EV lineup with the reveal of the Ora 5, a small-to-mid-size electric SUV designed to rival the BYD Atto 3, MG S5 EV, and upcoming Geely EX5.

A Global Rebrand for GWM Ora
The Ora 5 signals a fresh start for GWM’s electric division. The brand is dropping its quirky cat-themed names like Funky Cat, Lightning Cat, Ballet Cat in favour of a simpler alphanumeric naming system for global markets.
GWM says the new naming strategy is designed to “transcend cultural differences” and make its vehicles easier for international buyers to remember.

Design and Dimensions
While the name is new, the Ora 5 retains the friendly, rounded design language of the Ora hatchback, scaled up to SUV proportions. The styling includes circular headlights, full-width LED tail lights integrated into the tailgate, and a clean, upright stance.

GWM has confirmed a single 150kW electric motor driving the front wheels. According to Chinese reports, the Ora 5 will be available with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, similar to the one used in the GWM Lightning Cat.
