2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance Price and Specs: improved performance and record low price

Comments

The forthcoming 2024 Tesla Model 3 will be the fastest and most potent version to reach Australian shores later this year.

The refreshed Performance variant boasts more distinct features compared to the standard Model 3, including a sportier exterior design, interior tweaks, and the introduction of adaptive suspension for the first time.

It will get a strong power boost, reportedly reaching over 373kW in the US, resulting in a blistering 0-100km/h time of 3.1 seconds—a notable improvement from the previous 3.3 seconds.

The Model 3 Performance is available for pre-order in Australia, starting at $80,900 plus on-road costs, $2,500 lower than the the earlier model (21'-'23) at $83,400. Delivery is set to begin between July and September 2024, barring unforeseen delays.

Performance Boost

In the US, the Model 3 Performance is powered by dual electric motors boasting a combined output of 380kW (510 horsepower) and 741Nm. However, in other markets like Australia and Europe, Tesla's outputs are reported as 460 horsepower (343kW). Regardless of location, Tesla states this version is the most powerful Model 3 to date.

Equipped with "all-new high-performance drive units," Tesla has designed a new 4DU rear motor that delivers significant gains in continuous power, peak power, and peak torque.

Although foreign government certification documents suggest the new rear motor sustains maximum power longer and the front motor remains unchanged, there's speculation that the actual output could reach as high as 461kW (618hp). Battery capacity is expected to remain the same as its predecessor (80kWh).

With European WLTP testing, the 2024 Model 3 Performance achieves a 528km driving range per charge, slightly down from the previous 547km.

Improved Handling and Control

The upgrade to adaptive dampers is a first, giving the driver the ability to adjust suspension settings across Standard, Sport, and Track modes. Unlike the Model S and X, which link to air springs, the new Performance utilizes coil springs.

The updated vehicle also features new 20-inch 'Warp' design wheels with aerodynamic plastic inserts and is now fitted with wider rear tires attributed to improved traction and performance handling.

Acceleration modes including Chill, Sport, and Insane settings have been updated, alongside a Track Mode with a 'V3' user interface that enables variation of power distribution and a more predictable driving experience.

Enhancements extend to "hollow damper piston rods, multi-sectioned stabilizer bar, ultra-high strength steel springs, and stiffer suspension top mounts," in addition to performance brakes with red calipers that promise "enhanced pedal feel and improved heat management."

Differentiated Design and Interior

Aesthetically, the Performance variant stands apart from its siblings, thanks in part to a unique front bumper, carbon-fibre lip spoiler, and a new rear diffuser. Coupled with the updated Model 3 design elements like slimmer LED headlights, reshaped bonnet, and TESLA boot lid badging, it also boasts a substantial reduction in drag and improvements in lift balance.

Inside, the Performance introduces sportier front seats, carbon-fibre-look dashboard trim, and metal pedal covers. Technology updates present in the regular 2024 Model 3, such as indicator buttons on the steering wheel and touchscreen gear selection, are included.
