How does the Subaru Solterra compare to other EVs?
The Subaru Solterra is considered as a twin to the Toyota BZ4X and will also be competing with similarly priced medium-sized electric SUVs such as the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.
Subaru Solterra AWD
The base model Solterra AWD is priced competitively, being cheaper compared to other electric SUVs with AWD powertrains. Notwithstanding the lower price, it falls short on a number of key fronts including range, charging speed and storage. The Solterra however has substantially more ground clearance (212mm) compared to the other models.
Zecar's Take on the Subaru Solterra
Subaru has come late to the party with the Subaru Solterra. While the starting price is $69,990 before on-road costs is lower than that of electric AWD SUV alternatives, its falls short on key specifications such as driving range, charging speed and overall passenger and storage space.
Potential customers of the Solterra will likely be loyal Subaru customers or those seeking more serious off-road capability from their electric SUV. The average SUV customer however who likely will never take their SUV off-road and will likely get better value from other options.
If you are seeking an off-road capable electric SUV, the Subaru Solterra offers a solid package.
