Key Points

  • Lexus RZ electric car priced from $123,000
  • Two models, one battery size, AWD only
  • Up to 470km driving range, home charger included

The Lexus RZ is the Japanese luxury brand’s first ground-up electric SUV.

Priced from $123,000 to $135,000 before on-road costs, the RZ EV provides up to 470km of estimated driving range on the lenient NEDC cycle featuring a new spindle grille design, large 14-inch touchscreen, and adopts the dedicated e-TNGA EV platform shared with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Soltera SUVs.

It’s worth noting that the 18- and 20-inch alloy wheels do have a significant range claim difference overseas, which the local arm didn’t detail.

However, it did confirm that it intends to offer its steer-by-wire yoke steering wheel as an option later on.

The RZ is eligible for select Australian electric car incentives, excluding the fringe benefits tax (FBT) exemption for company fleets and novated leases.

The Lexus electric car boasts 11kW AC and 150kW DC charging capabilities via its Type 2/CCS2 port positioned at the front-left quarter side.

The Lexus RZ EV directly competes with the Genesis GV60, Electrified GV70, BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQC, as well as cheaper alternatives such as the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Volvo C40 Recharge electric cars.

Lexus RZ Warranty and Servicing

The Lexus electric SUV comes with a five-year, unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty and a long 10-year, unlimited kilometre battery warranty – provided you service it with Lexus (otherwise it’s five-years only).

Overseas, Lexus claims the battery pack will retain 90 per cent of its health after 10 years of use – but degradation isn’t covered in Australia.

The RZ benefits from the Lexus Encore Electrified Platinum program, which includes the installation of a single-phase ABB 7kW AC wall charger via Jet Charge, internet-connected services, mobile app function, three-years free Chargefox public charging, and limited redemptions for its on-demand rental service and valet parking.

Roadside assistance, servicing loan cars, and capped-price servicing are covered for the first five years.

Lexus Australia hasn’t detailed servicing schedules and costs yet.
