Xpeng has revealed the first SUV under its entry-level Mona sub-brand. Called the Mona L03, the five-seat electric SUV was filed with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on April 9, 2026. A launch in China is expected later this year.
The L03 is internally codenamed D02. It sits below the Xpeng G6 in size and is positioned between the Mona M03 sedan and the G6 in price. Local media in China expect a starting price of around 150,000 yuan (A$31,200), though Xpeng has not confirmed this.
Specs and Dimensions
The L03 was filed in two body length versions: 4,650 mm and 4,672 mm. Width is 1,920 mm, height is 1,600 mm, and the wheelbase is 2,850 mm. Curb weight starts at 1,855 kg. Top speed is 180 km/h.
The L03 rides on 18-inch or 20-inch wheels, with tire sizes of 225/60 R18 and 245/45 R20. The motor is made by Luxshare Precision Technology (Changshu). It has a rated power of 70 kW and a peak power of 183 kW. The battery is an LFP pack from CALB. No BYD FinDreams blade battery version was listed in the MIIT filing.

Design
The L03 follows the Mona design language. It has T-shaped headlights and a streamlined body. From the B-pillar back, the roofline drops into a coupe-like SUV profile. The front bumper has an active grille. The rear gets a full-width taillight strip instead of the graphic-matched lamps on the M03 sedan.
The MIIT filing shows a panoramic glass roof, semi-hidden door handles, and multiple cameras around the body. Optional equipment includes a front dual-lens camera, side-view cameras in the mirrors, a rear-view camera in the rear bumper, a rear spoiler, side skirts, and different wheel and brake calliper options. The multiple cameras suggest the L03 will support Xpeng's vision-based driver assistance system, including urban-assisted driving.

Pricing in China
In China, the Xpeng G6 is currently priced at 176,800 to 198,800 yuan. The Mona M03 sedan starts at 119,800 yuan. The L03 is expected to sit between the two, with a starting price of around 150,000 yuan (A$31,200). Xpeng has not confirmed pricing.
Xpeng China Pricing Context
Model | China Price (CNY) |
Mona M03 sedan | From 119,800 yuan |
Mona L03 SUV (estimated) | ~150,000 yuan (unconfirmed) |

Note: MIIT filings are an early disclosure. Some specifications may still change before the official launch.
The Mona M03 Sedan and Australia
Before the L03, Xpeng launched the Mona M03 sedan in China in August 2024. The 50,000th unit rolled off the production line just four months after launch, making it one of Xpeng's fastest-selling models.
The M03 made its global debut in Sydney at the Everything Electric show in March 2025. It was displayed alongside the Xpeng G6 and X9. TrueEV, Xpeng's then-distributor, showcased the car but did not announce a local launch date or pricing.
The M03 has not launched in Australia. Falling interest in sedans is likely a factor. The Australian market has shifted heavily toward SUVs, and a sedan from a brand still building awareness faces a harder path. The M03 has appeared at auto shows but has not progressed to a confirmed launch.

Could the L03 Come to Australia?
Xpeng has not confirmed the L03 for Australia. But there is a reasonable case for it. The G6 has sold well here, and the L03 would sit below it in price.
Based on the L03's expected China price of around 150,000 yuan we estimate the L03 would retail in Australia between $50,000 to $55,000 AUD before on-road costs.
Mona L03: Estimated Australia Price (Based on G6 Pricing Pattern)
Model | China Price (CNY) | Australia Price (AUD) |
Xpeng G6 Standard Range | 176,800 yuan | $54,800 (confirmed) |
Mona L03 (estimated) | ~150,000 yuan | ~$50,000 to $55,000 (estimate) |
Mona M03 sedan | 119,800 yuan | Not launched in Australia |
If the L03 does come to Australia, it would compete directly with the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Mazda CX-6e, and the G6 itself. The SUV segment is the most competitive part of the Australian EV market.
How the L03 Compares to Other Medium Electric SUVs
The L03 has not launched yet, so some figures below are estimates or based on MIIT filings. Competitor data is based on confirmed Australian specifications.
Medium Electric SUV Comparison
Model | Power | WLTP Range | Drive | Est. Price (AUD) |
Xpeng Mona L03 | 183 kW | TBC | RWD | ~$50,000 to $55,000 (est.) |
Xpeng G6 Standard Range | 185 kW | 470 km | RWD | From $54,800 |
Tesla Model Y | 208 kW | 466 km | RWD | From $58,900 |
BYD Sealion 7 Premium | 230 kW | 482 km | RWD | From $54,990 |
Mazda CX-6e GT | 190 kW | 484 km | RWD | From $53,990 |
The L03's 183 kW peak power is competitive for the segment. Range has not been confirmed. If it matches or exceeds the G6's 470 km, it would be a strong contender. The key advantage would be price, if the estimated $50,000 to $55,000 AUD range holds.
XPENG in Australia: What Is Happening Right Now
XPENG launched a factory-backed subsidiary in Australia on April 1, 2026. The new entity, XPENG Motors Australia Pty Ltd (XPENG ANZ), is a wholly owned subsidiary of XPeng Inc. It will build its own dealer network and manage sales and service directly.
This came after TrueEV, XPENG's original Australian distributor, was placed into external administration in March 2026. TrueEV had delivered around 2,000 vehicles since launching the G6 in late 2024. A Federal Court dispute between TrueEV and XPENG is ongoing, with the next hearing in October 2026.
XPENG ANZ is recruiting dealers across NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, and WA. The XPENG X9 large MPV is expected to launch in Australia in May 2026. The GX large SUV is also in the pipeline. More models are expected by end of 2026.
Xpeng Global Sales
Xpeng delivered 429,445 vehicles globally in 2025, a 126% increase year-on-year. The Mona M03 sedan was a key volume driver after its August 2024 launch. Monthly deliveries exceeded 30,000 units for most of the second half of 2025.
Xpeng Global Deliveries (Selected Periods)
Period | Deliveries | Year-on-Year Change |
Full Year 2024 | ~190,000 | +34% |
Full Year 2025 | 429,445 | +126% |
H1 2025 | 197,189 | N/A |
December 2025 | 37,508 | +2% |
What Comes Next
The L03 is expected to launch in China later in 2026. It will be the second model in the Mona lineup after the M03 sedan. Xpeng has not announced international markets for the L03.
For Australian buyers, the more immediate question is whether XPENG ANZ will stabilise its local operations and expand the lineup. The G6 is the only model currently on sale. The X9 and GX are next in line. The L03 would be a longer-term addition if it comes at all.
