Xpeng New G7 Electric SUV Surpasses 10,000 Orders Within an Hour of Launch

Comments

Xpeng’s newest electric SUV, the G7, has made a strong debut in China with more than 10,000 orders recorded in just the first hour of launch. This marks another big step for the Chinese EV maker, which is rapidly building its global presence and product lineup.

The G7 arrives only a month after Xpeng revealed official images of its upcoming P7 luxury sedan. The back-to-back releases show just how quickly the brand is moving in a space where speed and innovation are key.

Xpeng is promoting the G7 as the world’s first “Super AI car,” thanks to a new in-house computer chip that delivers Level 3 autonomous driving capability. According to the company, the chip surpasses many existing automotive-grade processors, allowing for advanced smart driving and other onboard tech features.

In a post on Chinese social media site Weibo, the company described the new G7 as offering “a revolutionary intelligent experience” and positioned it as a practical, high-tech SUV for young families.

Pricing for the G7 starts at around $A50,200 in China. That’s above the G6, which is currently being delivered in Australia, and reflects the G7’s larger size, more advanced features, and premium positioning.

On the design front, the G7 shares some visual cues with the latest Xpeng models, including a full-width LED light bar at the front, which also appears on the updated 2025 G6. From the side, the G7 stands out with flush-fitting door handles and a more upright roofline that leans toward a classic SUV silhouette rather than the sportier G6 coupe style.

A notable addition is the usable front boot (frunk), something missing from the G6. At the back, the G7 features a wide rear light bar with curved taillights, giving it a distinctive presence on the road.

The charging port is located on the right-hand side of the vehicle, similar to the G6, while repeater cameras on the sides support the G7’s autonomous driving systems. This charge port layout may be slightly less convenient at some older Tesla Supercharger stations in Australia, which were designed with other vehicle layouts in mind.

Battery options include two Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) packs:

  • 68.5 kWh offering up to 577 km CLTC
  • 81 kWh capable of 702 km (CLTC)

Under the WLTP cycle, these ranges are expected to drop to between 450 and 580 kilometres, more than adequate for most city and highway driving in Australia.

Power comes from a single rear-mounted electric motor delivering 218 kW. That makes it suitable for both urban trips and long-distance cruising.

Inside, the G7 takes a modern approach. There’s a large 15.6-inch centre touchscreen but no instrument cluster behind the wheel. Instead, drivers get a high-definition head-up display that shows essential information on the windscreen in real-time.

Deliveries for the G7 in China are set to begin soon. The model is expected to become one of Xpeng’s top-selling vehicles, given its combination of technology, space, and competitive pricing.

Xpeng has also confirmed its expansion into the UK and parts of Europe. In Australia, the company officially entered the market in December 2024. Since then, it has delivered close to 700 G6 SUVs, according to Carloop data from May 2025.

The G7 adds another key option to Xpeng’s growing lineup and offers a glimpse of how fast the brand is evolving compared to more established carmakers. With deliveries around the corner, it will be interesting to see how this new SUV stacks up against the G6 and what it might offer Australian EV buyers in the future.
