Volkswagen’s electric rollout in Australia is picking up speed. Just a few months after pricing dropped for its first locally bound EVs, the German carmaker has unveiled two more additions to its all-electric SUV range: the sporty ID.4 GTX and the affordable ID.5 Pro.
With prices starting from $62,990 (before on-road costs), VW’s newest offerings aim to strike a balance between performance and accessibility, finally giving Australians more choice in the all-electric SUV space.

Why This Matters for Australia
These EVs should have landed in Australia much earlier. Volkswagen, like several European automakers, delayed local launches due to what many saw as Australia’s outdated EV policies under previous federal leadership. While that didn’t stop Tesla or BYD, it did stall Volkswagen’s momentum.
But now, as more drivers look to ditch petrol and go electric, Volkswagen’s timing may finally be right. These models offer a European alternative to mainstream EVs like the Tesla Model Y or Kia EV6, with a distinct VW design and build quality that long-time brand fans will appreciate.
