Tesla’s latest iteration of the Model Y (Juniper update) arrives with a sweeping array of updates, with improvements across nearly every aspect of the best-selling electric SUV. From aerodynamic tweaks to premium interior upgrades, the 2025 Model Y delivers enhanced efficiency, a quieter cabin, and cutting-edge technology. The improvements however also come with price increases with the RWD variant receiving the biggest increase.
Variant | Price (old model) | Price (new model) | Change |
Model Y RWD | $55,900 | $63,400 | +$7500 |
Model Y Long Range | $69,900 | $73,400 | +$3500 |
Model Y Performance | $82,900 | N/A |
Here’s a breakdown of the most significant changes
Enhanced Aerodynamics and Efficiency
The new Model Y is 4% more aerodynamic, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.22 (down from 0.23), contributing to a 2.8% range boost for the Long Range AWD trim, now rated at 515km/320 miles. Engineers optimized the powertrain with new gearing and low-friction lubrication, while efficiency-focused tires slightly reduce top speed to 202kmh/125mph (from 250kmh/155mph). These changes, alongside improved regenerative braking for energy recapture, solidify the Model Y’s position as a leader in EV efficiency.
Exterior Design Refinements
A redesigned front fascia features a sleek light bar, eliminating standalone fog lights, while a front bumper camera (a first for the Model Y) includes a sprayer to combat debris. The rear sports a squared-off trunk glass, a refreshed lower bumper, and Tesla lettering replacing the rear logo badge. New wheel designs optimize battery life, and a slimmer profile adds 1.6 inches to the car’s length without compromising its iconic silhouette.

Premium Interior Upgrades
Step inside, and the Model Y feels decidedly more upscale. Redesigned door cards, double-stitched dash trim, and softer, textured fabrics elevate the cabin. Ventilated front seats (now perforated across all rows) and 0.6-inch longer rear cushions improve comfort. A 15.4-inch center touchscreen with slimmer bezels anchors the dashboard, complemented by a new 8-inch rear passenger screen for climate and entertainment control. Multicolor ambient lighting spans from dash to rear doors, and acoustic glass now encircles the cabin for 360º noise reduction.

Advanced Technology and Connectivity
Tech upgrades abound: Bluetooth and cellular connectivity are 50% faster, WiFi range doubles, and phone pairing is 10x more responsive. The steering wheel integrates buttons for lights, horn, camera, wipers, and mic, while a slimmer turn signal stalk remains. Three 65W USB-C ports support laptop charging, and next-gen Airwave 2.0 ventilation lets passengers control their own airflow. Cabin microphones enhance call quality by 66%, and the vanity mirror’s high CRI index ensures true-to-life reflections.

Comfort and Convenience Enhancements
Noise reduction is a standout focus: road vibration drops 51%, wind noise decreases 20%, and a 22% overall quietness improvement stems from added sound insulation and redesigned door seals. The glass roof’s new silver coating reflects 7x more heat, easing HVAC load. Rear seats fold with industry-leading speed, automatically clearing front headrests, while a quieter automatic trunk and frunk drain hole add practicality.

Performance and Handling Improvements
A 3% stiffer body structure and upgraded suspension deliver “softer yet sharper” handling, aided by 27% more rear tire downforce. Revised door latches produce a premium “thunk,” and reduced ground clearance (by 0.2 inches) enhances stability. The powertrain’s reduced friction and new gearing further refine acceleration and efficiency.

Safety and Practicality Tweaks
Passengers gain protection from door impacts via new bottom latches, while a relocated front seatbelt anchor (27mm lower) accommodates larger frames. The steering wheel’s new finger rest and metal-accented wireless charger trim add ergonomic polish. Tesla also debuts an indirect-reflective taillight bar for improved visibility.
Orders for the refreshed Model Y are open on Tesla's website with deliveries expected to begin in May 2025.
