Tesla Referral Programs

Tesla periodically offers various incentive programs. One of the most well-known has been the referral program, allowing existing Tesla owners to refer friends and family, with both parties receiving a benefit such as discounts on vehicles, free Supercharging and free Enhanced Autopilot trials.

Tesla Inventory Deals

Tesla occasionally offers discounts on inventory cars – those which are new but may have been test-driven or used for display purposes in showrooms. These 'demonstration' models often come with a reduced price tag but the same warranties as a brand-new car. There are currently dozens of Model 3 and Ys in Tesla's existing inventory and all have less than 50kms driven. For those looking to take delivery of their new Tesla within days rather than weeks, and don't mind a 2023 model, this may be a good option for you. By way of example, there is currently a 2023 Tesla Model 3 RWD available for $55,360 before on-road costs. This represents a 10.6% or $6,540 discount to the refreshed 2024 Tesla Model 3 RWD.

Free Tesla Supercharging

Tesla Model 3 Long Range vehicles purchased and delivered between November 20, 2023 and December 31, 2023 will receive 5,000 kilometres of free Supercharging. The value of this deal is estimated to be worth ~$400 based on a Tesla Supercharger cost of $0.62/kWh.

Only Model 3's on sale in Tesla's existing inventory are eligible. This deal appears to coincide with the imminent delivery of the 2024 Tesla Model 3.

Government Incentives for Electric Vehicles

While not a discount from Tesla directly, various government incentives can make purchasing a Tesla more affordable. For instance, rebates, stamp duty exemptions and FBT exemptions are available across various states for electric vehicle buyers. These incentives can significantly lower the effective price of a new EV.

In NSW, orders placed before 1 January 2024 will be eligible for a $3,000 rebate and free stamp duty. The value of these incentives for a 2024 Tesla Model 3 RWD is $5,285.

Used Teslas

A pre-owned Tesla could be a more budget-friendly option, often coming at a marked-down price compared with a new model. Tesla provides a limited warranty on used inventory vehicles, combining peace of mind with cost savings. Alternatively you could purchase a used Tesla through third-party dealers or private sellers at lower prices than buying direct. For example a recent search of carsales revealed several used Tesla Model 3s with asking prices of under $40,000.

When considering a used Tesla, research the:

Vehicle's history.
Remaining warranty.
State of the battery and other critical components.

Tesla Corporate Program

Tesla used to offers discounts through a Corporate Program with employers with more than 500 employees. Benefits included free delivery fee ($1,375) and 3-years of servicing (tyre rotation, air filter replacement etc). The Tesla Corporate Program in Australia ended on 31 March 2022.
