Smart, once synonymous with tiny, fuel-efficient city cars, has relaunched in Australia with two new electric SUV offerings: the Smart #1 and Smart #3, with prices starting from $54,900 and $57,900 plus on-road costs respectively. Smart is targeting the entry level of the premium market and will compete with new entrants like Zeekr and more established brands like Mini.
Developed through a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely (the parent company of Volvo and Polestar), they are built on a shared dedicated EV platform with other models, including Volvo's EX30 and the Zeekr X. Smart electric cars are designed in Germany and manufactured in China.
Both models will commence deliveries in September and are being distributed in Australia exclusively by LHS Auto and sold through existing Mercedes-Benz showrooms
